IMO, Gonzales as atty gen........if he holds this position, it clearly and unambiguously says to the world that the Am govt agrees with him that the Geneva Conventions are a 'quaint theory'

1. gonzales
our foreign relationships already suck, and even if powell would've stayed they wouldn't have gotten any better.

gonzales is worse than ashcroft (did i just say that?), he's just not as batshit crazy

9. I dunno.
The man who legally blessed torture vs. the man who covers statue titties and is intimidated by librarians?

Thinking about Gonzalez with that kind of power makes me long for the Ashcroft days.

4. Depends what your nationality is,
to tip to scale as to which one is worse.

Not an american.... beware the new sec of state.

You are an american.... watch what you say, as ari cautioned.

5. sec. of state is easily ignored. atty general has real power.
fortunately, a sec. of state's real power is derived from FOREIGN governments. if foreign governments don't respect you, you have little to no power in that position beyond being a messenger. in this case, foreign governments a all too familiar with both shrub and rice.

gonzales, on the other hand, could announce that he won't prosecute anyone who uses torture on american citizens. oh wait, he already did that....

6. Tough question.
It's sort of like that age-old dilemma: If you are up to your neck in puke, and somebody throws a handful of shit at you, do you duck?

Both Condor Lizard and Torture Memo Gonzales are really, really bad. But whenever weecowboy has to make a decision about anything, he will always choose the worst of all possible alternatives.

13. They are both bad!
They are both equally bad. Neither one of them are qualified for the positions for which Shrub has nominated them.

When I think of Alberto Gonzales, I think of him not telling then Governor Bush about critical information in death pentality cases, such as evidence that showed the person on death row was innocent, or the person on death row had a racially biased jury. He didn't give that info to Bush when Bush had to determine clemency vs. death. Then of course, there's the toture memo he wrote.

And don't even get me started on Condi. She doesn't even know what her job is as Natl Security Adviser! Bush puts a hawk in charge of diplomacy.

Anyway--they are both bad.
