The NBA brawl is just another diversion...
personally, I couldn't care less but we'll hear all about it for months because it so matters in the scheme of things.

2. I don't think so....
It's telling us that goons in the stands who throw beer and cans at baskteball players are likely to trigger heated exchanges with those players, resulting in nasty fistfights. The NBA gives fans/players easier access to each other than any other major sport... and should rethink it's security arrangements. That's what I get out of it.

3. WTF?
did the Repubs make the black players do that? It's NBA which is followed by tens of millions, that's why it made it's in the news. If it was hockey it would be a 1 min thing in the evening news. Not everything is a conspiracy.

4. There's an element of truth to that.
Shows like Cops are another example.

5. It actually shows how on edge
this country is. People are at the edge. In groups, they are not rational. Although this is far from the first altercation at a sporting event, it is significant in how extreme it was. It is not a good sign for our society. But it is important.

8. It struck me as odd
that there was a thread on DU today that said something to the effect of "why aren't there riots these days?" And, of course, last night's brawl was nothing, if not an in-door riot. The country will experience similar events .... this was something akin to "road rage" ... and it is an example of out-of-control behavior that really is encouraged by our president. He is the "war president." He is Mr. Tough Guy. If he has a problem, he reacts violently. (Of course, people should be responsible for their own actions, but we are at the tip of the ice cube with group behaviors in this country.)

I suspect that we will soon witness a variety of "crowd control" tactics that will make us question the sanity of our society.

9. The culture of thuggery begins in the white house.
Edited on Sat Nov-20-04 11:19 PM by DenverDem
buholini sets the standard for thuggery. A megalomaniac who solves his problems with mass murder. 11/2 was electoral thuggery on a national scale. Mass media is mind control thuggery.

More thuggery at the Clemson/South Carolina football game. Beginning of a trend leading to brown shirtism and blitkreiging foreign policy that will only be stopped when the rest of the world comes down on us like the allies came down on the axis in WWII.

The problem with busholini, unlike shickelgruber, is that he has the ability to destroy the whole world at his sociopathological fingertip.

11. Yes, I saw the football game.
I imagine it'll happen at high school games soon.

7. I can understand the issue dominating ESPN and Fox Sports for a while
But the story is worth no more that a few minutes or as a topic on one discussion show on any alleged news network.

10. I couldn't agree more--the local news just spent about five full mins.
rehashing the stupidity and it's been on all day. Why don't they just replay the game ad nauseum. It's obvious Scott Peterson's conviction has left a hole in the news schedules.
