World Believes Condi To Be An Ass

Eric Margolies / Toronto Sun

"The image of Condi Rice and George Bush sitting at the White House piano singing Onward Christian Soldiers is unsettling Europe, which thought Bush II might rstore America to its traditional multilateral foreign policy. Even Bush's faithful British retainer, Tony Blair, is looking increasingly unhappy."

1. I'm puzzled by this:
"Condi Rice ... is unsettling Europe, which thought Bush II might rstore America to its traditional multilateral foreign policy."

What on Earth made anyone think that? Is it even true that "Europe" (unclear on what's even meant by Europe here - France & Germany?) thought this? I can't imagine why anyone would.

4. She's the perfect face for the Bush regime
to be presenting to the rest of the world. She is certainly a more intellectually honest representative than Colin Powell was.

5. CF, please explain
"a more intellectually honest representative".

I don't agree with this. I think I know what you mean, though. I believe you're saying she'll pursue the same agenda, and she'll come right out and say that.

9. Yes, I don't mean that she herself
is intellectually honest. Rather, that she more honestly reflects the agenda and attitude of the Bushies than Powell did. Powell had the veneer of being a respectable diplomat, respectful towards others. Condi is a big "Fuck you, world", and that is a more truthful face of the Bush regime.

10. Thanks for clarifying, CF.
I agree with you. In some ways, Colon Bowel was more destructive because of the trust he built up over the decades. His persona, his reputation for being a moderate.

11. Intellectually honest? Uh, no
Her "world affairs experience" is as false as her phantom degrees.
She is a FRAUD.

12. Please see my clarification
of what I was trying to say. I agree with your assessment of her. I just think she is a more accurate reflection of the Bush regime than Colon Bowell was.

13. I do see what you mean. And I agree
with you that she accurately reflects the regime. She's a completely pliable sycophant.

19. Powell was like the consigliere of the Mob - wore suits, spoke well
could "pass" for a non-thug. Mob doesn't need a consigliere when they get to make their own laws. The world better get used to speak thug.

6. Margolin is great!
He never pulls his punches which is why his column is only found in a Canadian paper, truth is forbidden in US ones.

8. As an African American
it saddens me to see that the first two blacks to hold such high level jobs are not highly respected around the globe. I was shocked to hear a reporter say that Mubarak of Egypt asked that Powell not be sent to discuss Middle East problems. He wanted someone who spoke for the administration and realized Colin Powell did not. The world knows that Powell has very little clout.

16. I can understand that feeling. Powell was in a Catch-22. It appears
that he tried to be a voice of reason within an unreasonable administration, and when that failed took the path of the good "organization man" to carry out its policies. Thus he is perceived as having little clout since he carried out orders rather than influence policy, yet does not get history's respect as someone who stood up and spoke out, refused to do wrong things, and/or resigned on principle. It is unfortunate that he was not asked to serve when a more reasonable administration was in office.

Now Mubarak will get to work with someone who is more in the inner circle in the administration, but who cannot be trusted. Hope he's happy.

18. Well, they DID lay down with the dogs, didn't they?
And now they both have gotten up with fleas.

I don't think 2 white people who have acted the same way would be respected, either. In this instance, I honestly think pigmentation has nothing to do with it. It's all about Colon and Condi being seen as Pig-Lipstickers-in-Chief for the BFEE....

21. But wait...Condi is PERFECT, PERFECT I SAY!!!!
No one is allowed to say ANYTHING bad about Condi. NO ONE. So we all just need to shut up and get with the program. If you say anything negative about Condi, you are obviously a misogynist AND a racist...you are clearly evil. You may not criticize her policy initiatives, you may not take issue with her worldview. If you do, you are telling the nation that you want to keep our fellow African and female citizens DOWN, you are worse than the Taliban, and you must be silenced!

I hope everyone can see my sarcasm (sometimes people take things seriously if that is not specified, I have myself not caught the subtle snarkiness on occasion, so I simply wanted to make that abundantly clear!).
