Sadly, times they have changed. The reality is now that we have shown are real reason for being there. It's not their freedom from oppression as they had hoped/prayed in the beginning.

Yeah, #4 in particular is really funny. She is holding up a sign professing her happiness, but the woman looks absolutely peeved to say the least. Yeah, she's just positively thrilled to have her home invaded...
Number 5 is no different -- explain this to me poster: how is it that these people are so able to write English? Not to mention the fact that it is just weird that they'd have such placards on them by chance. However, I do not believe that the other three are necessarily staged. I know for a fact that our soldiers -- I used to be one -- are handing out little gift bags like that. Nonetheless, the majority of the people there don't appreciate being "occupied". Heck, I wouldn't be happy if I was occupied either...

These photo-ops occurred shortly after the beginning of the war, I remember seeing them.
Although I don't doubt the sincerity of the kids photos, this moment has past forever and been replaced by the living hell we have perpetrated upon them.

18. Staged photo ops indeed! |
|
That last one, with the little boy holding up the "Thank you very much Mr. Bush" sign clinched it for me.
When the U.S. invaded Grenada, white painted grafitti appeared overnight all over the island saying "Thank you President Reagan. God bless America." Photographs of it were printed in U.S. newspapers and magazines.
When the U.S. invaded Panama, white painted grafitti appeared overnight all over the capital city saying, "Thank you President Bush. God bless America." Photographs of it were printed in U.S. newspapers and magazines, although few remembered, until I pointed it out, the similarity to the Grenada grafitti.
I heard a talk by a sociologist who had worked a lot in Grenada, and he said that his friends on the island told him that "white men in vans" had painted the grafitti during the night.

...because American soldiers, like Americans in general, tend to be kind and affectionate people.
It's a shame their leaders didn't share such traits and instead chose to go in without a plan to maintain order. I wonder how many of those beautiful people are still happy, still content with their lot, or even still alive.
What a difference a little planning might have made.

25. Well those five pictures settle it. BUSH WAS RIGHT! |
|
Thank GAWD our leader had the foresight to invade and annex Iraq, set up a US puppet government and depose Saddam, Sure, we've lost 1200 men, maimed 10,000 more killed at least 100,000 Iraqis, but if the 16 people in those photos were happy (mostly happy to get candy it would appear) then it was ALL WORTHWHILE!
What was I thinking, going to all those silly protests to try and prevent the momentary happiness of these 16 people!
Thank you, burpclot, for reminding us that the illegal US invasion of a sovereign nation is more than just mindless bloodshed and looting. There are happy photo ops with our 18-year-old, know-nothing troops. Thank you. If it weren't for you, we could never see these photos. Except on Fox. And Newsmax. And Freerepublic. And WorldNetDaily. And Lucianne. And Scarborough Country.......

I think the message the op intended is pretty clear - "See? You all are wrong and the Iraqis love us!"
The problem is that the poster betrays support for an attitude toward us - his fellow citizens - that makes a mockery of his claim.
People in this country were not free to hold up anything BUT "I Love Bush" signs at Republican rallies without being removed, threatened hassled and arrested. That means that we are to believe that the Iraqi people are more supportive of Bush than his own people are, does it not? Then one has to ask - if the Iraqi people are more supportive of Bush than we are, why does our military have to kill so many of them? Are they terrorists, or are they Bush loyalists who put half of the American people to shame in their understanding of the benefits of freedom Bush style? You can't have it both ways.

It's amazing how nice people will be to someone carrying an automatic weapon, especially when they know that the person carrying the weapon can kill civilians with impunity.
Now let's see you post the photos of the 100,000 civilians who have been killed by the US military then go back where you belong.

That kind of thing goes on every day over there, EVERY DAY, guaranteed. Freeper types bitch that it doesn't get reported, and perhaps it should more, but what NEEDS to get reported are the atrocities.
Of course I don't think all our soldiers/sailors/marines/airmen are monsters. I wasn't a monster when I was in. I helped rebuild an orphanage, a soccer field, playgrond equipment, etc... The guys in these photos are most likely guys like me.

I'm glad that some of the Iraqi children got gifts...that's nice. But these pictures are staged. The handwritten signs are American handwriting. Even European handwriting that uses the same letters as we do is different than ours. These signs were definitely written by Americans and I bet the people holding them don't even know what they say.

40. That's a swell tactic |
|
"Capt. Ayers took lessons from his fellow captains. In April, Capt. Jesse Beaudin convinced a friend from the U.S. to send backpacks, notebooks and pencils for schoolchildren. Kids mobbed troops for the goods whenever they went out on patrol. "The kids provided security. No one attacked us when we were surrounded by children," Capt. Beaudin says. After hearing about this tactic at the dining hall, Capt. Ayers's men also wrote home requesting school supplies." -- "Trial by Fire," Wall Street Journal, September 22, 2004
www.worddiq.com defines a human shield as
"a military term describing the use of civilians to deter an enemy from attacking certain targets—in particular military targets. International law considers the use of human shields to protect military targets a war crime."

60. Yes, I recall clearly how *, Rummy & Condi said "This one's for the kids!" |
|
Our hot-to-trot invasion of Iraq had, um, **nothing** to do with glomming onto the world's largest untapped oil reserve, or rooting out alleged WMDs, or copping fat contracts for war profiteers, or letting Halliburtion charge the bejeezus out of the U.S. government for services unrendered, or, like Condi said, "waking up to find that the smoking gun was a mushroom cloud."
No, it was all about spreading freedom and doing it for the kids of Iraq! We saved them from the infamous mythological woodchippers! Can you believe how fucking ALTRUISTIC BushCo is?
Oh yeah, "Mission is so ***NOT*** Accomplished!" :grr:

62. Do you think that we went to Iraq just to do evil? |
|
Do you think that we didn't have the brains to have some pretense? Do you beleive that this administration is so stupid that it wouldn't even try to reach out to some of the Iraqi's with some good? Do you think that by giving them bread and water, they most certainly expect some of the Iraqi people to "buy into" thier "announced" reason for occupying this country? Look at all of the people in the U.S. that voted for Bush? Many of them are directly adversely affected by his policies, yet they vote for him?
Of course there are some "goodies" being handed out to the Iraqi people, but not nearly enough.
