Kevin Sites recounts killing of wounded Iraqi by Marine

The following day Marines received a report that guerrillas had reoccupied the mosque, Sites said. As they entered the mosque, they found another Marine squad already there. Asked whether anybody had been found inside the mosque, one of the Marines already there held up five fingers.

Sites said an officer he was with asked: "Did you shoot them?" The Marine replied in the affirmative: "Roger that, sir." The officer then asked if the men had been armed.

"The Marine just shrugs and we all move inside," Sites said.

Inside, Sites said, he saw the 10 bodies left in the mosque the previous day.

"But more surprising, I see the same five men that were wounded from Friday as well. It appears that one of them is now dead and three are bleeding to death from new gunshot wounds," he said. "I look closely at both the dead and the wounded. There don't appear to be any weapons anywhere."

It's a luxury to be able to kill people relatively "cleanly" when you have superior weaponry and manpower. It's disturbing that to Marines, most Americans, and even Kevin Sites, this translates to the moral high ground. "Fighting a gentleman's war"? Please. Sounds like Kevin Sites is suffering from Stockholm Syndrome. His whole piece sounds like an apology to the Marines he was running around with.
