I'm Active Duty Military and I want Rush off AFRTS
Any legal or military justice gurus on DU that can tell me what I need to do?

I sent two e-mails already to my Senators, but since I'm from OH, and that is now a one party state, I did not get a response.

I've signed the petition at mediamatters.org, but this pig is still on the Armed Forces Radio telling me that I am a communist and terrorist sympathizer since I am a Democrat.

I would love to get my hands on this piece of dung. My dad had a good expressions...."I'd rip his tits off".

1. Get together with OTHER soldiers who feel the same way...
And phone, e-mail his show directly. Also write letters to Stars and Stripes and your local newspapers.

Organize.

Get in contqact with the military families who are against the war and oppose Bush's policies.

It's people like you who can make a difference.

10. Been on the dial for over a decade
It was a jarringly surreal experience when he first came on -- I was working on a Marine base in Japan and my office mates used to tune in. In an environment where disrespect for the chain of command reaped serious punishment, I was listening to rants about the Commander in Chief being a traitor, criminal, liar, and possible murderer.

3. Contact Sen. Harkin
He is a dem from Iowa and very out spoken and nice. He may have an idea for what you can do. I am a vet and you should not have to listen to his hate talk!

4. Good luck with that
AFN emailed me back saying that they carried and would continue to carry the idiot because he was the most popular talk radio host in the nation and represented the views of the majority of Americans. Oh, and he gave his three hour show gratis. I'm just a vet; hopefully AD will have more luck.

5. David Hackworth is also an advocate for military personnel...

Good luck, max. I don't think I could take Rush for 5 minutes, let alone having him forced on me.

14. I've read some of his columns
but, isn't he a right winger. I seem to remember him being a Clinton hater.

My question really on this is do I take it to my chain of command first? I'm concerned they'd chop me of at the knees if I jumped the chain.

Those of you not on active duty need to help us with this. I feel the backlash would be tremendous on those of us on active duty.

But, what the hell. I just went over 20.

15. I believe he is a right-winger, but he's spoken out against this
neo-con administration.

Better yet, why don't you contact the senators of your choice who sit on the Senate Armed Forces Committee. Here's the link:

6. Attack him on moral grounds...
I am not fighting here in Iraq so that he can make his buy on the corner. He lacks moral values, and when it came time to serve, he had something better to do. He is the poster child for the politically priviledged, overpaid, underworked and not-accountable for his illegal actions. Etc. Etc.

7. Rush preaches hatred for his fellow Americans. That has no place
on a taxpayer's radio station.

8. A more productive approach

IMO, would be to advocate for equal time from left of the dial. I would recommend Randi Rhodes.

9. That's been proposed
time and again. The usual reply is that their NPR bloc is considered ideological balance to Limbaugh.

11. Gawd, I HATE that.
Edited on Mon Nov-22-04 06:46 PM by crispini
I've heard it too, but JEEZ. One's a ranting RW ideologue... the other is sort of a mild mannered news show which has a reputation for being "liberal" but in fact is really a little bit to the right if anything.

Hey, try that. Tell them that NPR is really Right Wing radio and there is NO true representation of the Left on your dial. Take examples. Post a request on here, you'll get about a zillion, I would expect.

Edit: This approach would have the value of being novel, at least.

my husband is active duty military and he knows what you are talking about with the Rush thing. Also, in the office where he works, the DoD has said they must play FOX news only. Very disturbing
