Email Shell here:
http://www.shell.com/home/us-en/html/iwgen/tell_shell/forms/app_contact_other.html and ask them to continue on their (relatively) progressive path. Maybe we can push them to champion our causes, and help them to help us to starve the beast. My email to them:
You have a unique position in the industry, in that your company is one of the few oil companies that contributes more to the democrats than the republicans.
http://www.opensecrets.org/industries/contrib.asp?ind=E01 Every other major gas company donates more to the republicans, this is one area where you stand out.
There is a movement afoot to boycott the "red" companies, to starve the beast, so to speak. You are listed as one of the good alternative companies.
http://www.boycottbush.net/consumers.htmThe Human Rights Campaign lists you as a good company.
http://www.hrc.org/equalityatexxon/Ecolinks lists you as a good company.
http://www.ecolinks.net/conpolcli.htmlThe Green Party suggests boycotting your competitors.
http://www.gp.org/press/pr_07_10_01_b.htmlShell made a name for itself earlier this year when one of the top execs spoke out about global warming. Why not play up your progressive side? Help us to publicize environmental issues, and we in turn will help you with your profits. Half the country is looking desperately for a way to vote with their dollars against the current administration's corporate lobbyists. Invest more heavily in progressive research and policies and market yourself as a responsible alternative.
Most people filling up their tanks stop at the gas station on the most convenient corner of the intersection. However, a large number of those same people will make it a habit to fill up at a particular intersection, if they know that the company selling the gas is supporting a good cause. I've changed my habits since Nov 2, and have found a Shell station that is now part of my routine. I know many others who would happily do the same.
