Religious Right is trying to change name of Interstate 69'
From http://www.crooksandliars.com/

Hostettler mounting campaign to change the name of Interstate 69

By August Wayne, THG News

John Hostettler, the Congressman representing the 8th district of Indiana, has been convinced by local religious groups to introduce legislation in the House that would change the name of an Interstate 69 extension to a more moral sounding number. There are plans to extend the interstate from Indianapolis through southwestern Indiana all the way through Texas into Mexico in the coming years. While most believe this highway will be good for the state’s economy, religious conservatives believe “I-69” sounds too risqué and want to change the interstate’s number. Hostettler, a proponent of the interstate extension, agrees. “Every time I have been out in the public with an ‘I-69’ button on my lapel, teenagers point and snicker at it. I have had many ask me if they can have my button. I believe it is time to change the name of the highway. It is the moral thing to do.”

Now a number is even offensive to these fools.

And so it goes, on and on and on, and on....

9. Look at the disclaimer:
http://www.hoosiergazette.com/disclaimer.htm

Seeing as how the Hoosier Gazette is the only source I've ever seen quoted for this "story" (even the OP links to it), I would have to say it's satire.

7. Jeez, people, start selling buttons!
Buy some ad space in the back of C&D, R&T, Autoweek, etc., get some patches, lapel pins, and bumper stickers made up, and you folks'll start getting a nice bit o' change in your pockets...

If your in a hurry You can always request a Speed Hump

With this disclaimer.

* Due to the large number of requests, neighborhoods may have to wait before receiving speed humps. Neighborhoods that do not rate high on the City's priority list, and therefore do not make the following year's installation schedule, may elect to pay for the total cost of the speed humps. By doing this, they will be included on the next installation schedule. The neighborhoods will not be reimbursed by the City at a later date.
