Cry for guatemala, with a corpse in every gate
If I Had A Rocket Launcher --Bruce Cockburn

here comes the helicopter -- second time today
everybody scatters and hopes it goes away
how many kids they've murdered only god can say
if i had a rocket launcher...i'd make somebody pay.

i don't believe in guarded borders and i don't believe in hate
i don't believe in generals or their stinking torture states
and when i talk with the survivors of things too sickening to relate
if i had a rocket launcher...i would retaliate

on the Rio Lacantun one hundred thousand wait
to fall down from starvation -- or some less humane fate.
cry for guatemala, with a corpse in every gate
if i had a rocket launcher...i would not hesitate

i want to raise every voice -- at least i've got to try.
every time i think about it water rises to my eyes.
situation desperate echoes of the victims cry
if i had a rocket launcher...some sonofabitch would die

We are doomed to repeating history.

1. The tragedies that so many endure are

almost unbearable. Reading this, and thinking of Guatemalan people I have met, makes me very sad, very angry, and very glad for the safety of those who have escaped to other countries. We have an increasing number of Guatemalan immigrants here in northwest Georgia, joining immigrant populations of Mexicans, Filipinos, Indians, Chinese, Japanese. They enrich our lives, culturally and culinarily, and I'm glad they're safe here. Still, no one should have to leave his/her country because of hatred and violence.

2. May God Damn the
U$ foreign Policy, School of the Americas, Ronald Raygun, Poppy Bu$h, Oliver North, Negroponte, etc. etc. etc.
200,000 Guatemalian Indians dead for Iran-Contra
AND in 1956, Guatemala was on its way to be a Democracy, but United Fruit and the U$ couldn't have that could they!
