22 % is not a Majority I keep hearing that “Values Voters” won a mandate in the 2004 election. I understand that “values” as defined in this election as restricting the rights of US Citizens to marry whoever they please and restricting the rights of women over their bodies. I, personally, define Values differently. But, still, looking at “values” as defined in this past election, how can anyone one say it won a mandate? Sure, 22% was more than any other single issue listed in the surveys, but it is hardly a majority. It is not a third, not even a quarter of the total vote! Looking at it another way, 78% of the population of the U.S. voted AGAINST “values” as defined in this past election as the most important issue. Now, THAT is a MANDATE!
