CNN cuts away from Queen discussing free health care |
|
"Domestic issue not of as much interest to our viewers as her coming discussion of national security."
Yeah, right!

7. Actually, they're more socialist than we are. |

America would be shocked, SHOCKED to learn. They are also very untrusting of religion creeping into their government. SHOCKED I tell you!

17. Well, i always drag out the example of Norway |
|
when talking about state churches - Norway's got an Evangelical-Lutheran one, and the Prime Minister of the conservative coalition government is actually a priest in it. The Finance minister is gay, and in a civil union - Norway has civil unions for gays, and we're slowly moving towards gender neutral marriage.... Norwegian schools are Christian, but most likely that is about to change due to a ruling in a UN committee - but they wouldn't dream of teaching creationism in science class, and they teach sex ed at all age levels. If any politician besides members of the Christian People's party start talking about their faith, they would be looked at funny, and using it as a basis opon which to make political decisions is frowned at, except in the aforementioned case of CPP politicians, it's a case of WYSIWYG.
Norway, with its state church and reverend prime minister has less religion in its government than the US.

and she lived in Europe. After waiting 4 years to get treated, they finally tied her to a "cure monkey", gave her two Tylenol, then made her do jumping jacks. Fucking socialist bastards.<sarcasm off>

The thing that saddens me, is that in its heyday, CNN was a LIVE venue..and from all over the world.. They did not have "canned set-up pieces"..they did not have "shows" or "programs".. They had PEOPLE positioned all over the world, and contrary to what they would have people believe now, there is NEWS happening 24/7 and it's EVERYWHERE..
When something big was happening, they were the "fly on the wall", often just filming what was happening, and letting YOU judge for yourself what you saw..
The news-readers were not "Ken & Barbie-fied gigglers". they were rather ordinary-looking NEWS people who knew what they were doing.. Shaw..Holliman..Arnett...and many more.. Their foreign correspondents were just that.....foreign.. They LIVED in the places they reported from, so when they spoke, you got the whole message.
There was very little editing or commentary. When there WAS commentary, a subject could carry on for as long as there was information to impart. Rigid "time chunks" were not the norm back then..
Crossfire was not CroSSSSfiRRRRRe.. It was a ONE HOUR, sensibly paced program that was very similar to a real debate..
CNN has become a caricature of itself.. Its main purpose now is for cross-promotion of the other "products" of the various "parent comapnies".. and it SUCKS..

I remember when the students in Beijing were demonstrating for week after week. CNN did a great job of covering it. If that was happening today they would probably mention it in a 20 second spot and switch to coverage of a celebrity trial.

5. Does anyone see a way here to get universal health care? |
|
Maybe if we knew more about how "socialized medicine" works in Europe, we could convince our fellow citizens to adopt it here.

10. Oh, it's terribly complicated. |
|
We a pay a little more on these things called 'taxes'. And then we get free healthcare.
Don't think about it too much America, it'll only make your head hurt.

that the per capita spending on healthcare is lower in Canada than it is in the US. But because a profit is not the focus, the overall costs are lower.
