My part in boycotting republican supporters
I have leased a vehicle for the past 9 years with Ford. This year, I will not be leasing another vehicle for the biz. Instead I bought an older car from a private individual, am having it repaired and driving that. Ford credit will no longer get my support....period.

If there were any hybrids up here, I would of looked to those - BUT nothing up here yet.

We all have choices in how we spend our hard earned money. Sometimes the choices are hard - but that is my sacrifice for not giving up my ideals.

Anybody else doing anything?

Currently the only oil company that gives significantly more to the democrats.

3. As a small business owner, this makes me uneasy.
Frankly, boycotts can cut both ways.

8. Yes they can
Look - our voices go unheard, or if heard, ignored.
Our votes go uncounted.
Our protests are ignored or partitioned as "focus groups".
Our civil liberties are being eroded.
Our privacy is being invaded.
Our politicians are not effective.

There is no other nation or groups of nations that can force/encourage the US government into any semblance of accountability.

There is no military power that can be an effective counterbalance to the US empire.

There is only one avenue left to us. There is only one thing that we, as everyday people can choose freely (so far)...and that is where we choose to spend our dollars.

I will not support Bushco overtly, covertly or openly. I will not support Bush ENABLERS if I can help it. I apologise up front to those that this may hurt...but it seems to me to be the only way that I, as a single individual can make a difference....even if it is miniscule.

9. The idea is to boycott republican supporters and support Dem
businesses.

A nationwide boycott of large corporations that supports republicans and a deliberate effort to help small Dem businesses might actually be a boon for you, depending on what type of business you own, if enough Dems participate.

12. I don't think you have to worry
small businesses are not the targets. The targets are large, multi-national corporations.

14. They already do
I know several repigs who boycott companies like Ben and Jerry's and Newman's Own because they don't agree with the company politics.

11. As of today
I've canceled my cable, stopped shopping at Safeway, canceled my AOL account which I only maintained for travel purposes anyway, and quit eating all fast food. I have no Wal Mart where I live thank God but if there was I wouldn't be going to it either.

13. I drive a 15 year old 4 cylinder pickup
and I haven't put gas in it since the first of June. I still have about 3/8 tank. My "other car" is an electric moped, costs about half a cent a mile and is great for short trips when I don't have to haul a lot of stuff.

I heat my house with a woodstove during the coldest three months. The 1952 floor furnace hasn't been on yet.

The only restaurant food I eat is Chinese takeout, and it's infrequent. I bought a cookbook and learned how to cook a long time ago.

I make a lot of my own clothing, go to thrift shops for the rest. I did need a new pair of running shoes this year. Those I had to get new. They were NOT Nikes.

My house is furnished out of a thrift shop by the hippie design ethic (if you can't eat it or wear it, stick it on the wall as art), and the result might give Martha Stewart a CVA, but it's comfy.

I don't have cable or satellite. I do have a large collection of recorded music, and I rent movies when decent ones come out. That means about 3 times a year. Yes, I'm a snob.

I'd like to be able to garden, grow more of my own veggies and put them up, but I live in a desert and we're in the midst of a severe drought, so that's on hold. I'm a member of the local food co-op, though.

I'm sure there's more I can do to starve the beast. When it occurs to me, I'll start.
