Remember mediawhoresonline.com? |
|
Used to be my favorite thing to read.
Whatever happened to them? They've been "out to pasture" for a year. Anyone have the scoop as to when, if ever, they're coming back?

2. bought out by Murdoch? |
|
who knows...they always went on long vacations. Maybe depression at the hopelessness...at the point where every member of the media is a whore...what do you have left to contrast them with?

5. I heard it was two women who ran the site |
|
and they got burnt out. I agree with you - that used to be my number one site for progressive activism/media watchdogging. Media Matters leaves me cold. MWO told it like it is.
And we should never forget the luminaries who won the Media Whore of the Year awards!

6. Glad I'm not the only one who doesn't like Media Matters |
|
Although they do a good thing, I really, really don't like the fact that they have a comments section now. It's always being freeped by stupid right-wingers who are too afraid to register as anything by "anonymous". David Brock is doing a fine job...now. Glad he saw the true evil and decided to fight against it.

11. I think the thing about Media Matters |
|
is that it feels fragmentary. They are covering all of the usual right-wing a-holes, and because that is a big job, there are lots of stories everyday.
But MWO was somehow able to string together cohesive narratives, showing just how corrupted individuals and "tall tales" got. They had a way of putting all the facts together into a good, albeit frustrating story.
Media Matters just feels like a laundry list to me - I hope others like it and use it as an important resource.

My favorite thing was when you saw a big picture of a mushroom cloud on their home page. That was the sign of a huge breaking story.
I wish to hell they would come back. I'm sure they were sick of the fact that everytime there was a breaking story about Shrub, the media made sure that it didn't grow legs.

Bob Somerby is a little bit more dog-with-a-bone long-winded with some pet peeves, he doesn't always toe the leftist line, and his means of attack are more smooth, but he's as perceptive as mwo was in its heyday.

10. Daily Howler is probably the most important site/blog on the web today |
|
Sommerby has Lexus/Nexus and he's not afraid to use it. Would that more "journalists" also considered checking up on the reality of the tales they tell.

12. Aaron Brown got called |
|
a whore on that site and went on a rampage. I emailed him, along with hundreds of others, and he emailed me back. Several times. These guys just can't take it when they get called on stuff. Mona Charen also got into a email spat with me, instigated by mediawhores. Funny how thin-skinned reporters and columnists are when you confront them.

And as I recall, it started with MWO trying to PRAISE Brown over something he did. Weird.
