Poll question: Dan Rather: Liberal or Not?
Edited on Tue Nov-23-04 05:10 PM by Placebo
Do you think Dan Rather is a liberal or not?

I don't really watch him, so I can't say.

2. Oh hell yeah he is a liberal
And I hope, on his last broadcast, he takes the opportunity to let the world know the truth about what has happened to america.

I expect them to have to drag him off the set which will happen right after they cut the feed.

10. It'll be interesting to watch him on tonight's broadcast, to see if...
he talks about his planned retirement from the anchor seat.

3. I think Dan Rather wants the truth whatever that might be.
Why is that liberal? I think with his pseudo-retirement that he will work harder than ever to get at the truth especially about the chimp.

8. Because to seek the truth, whatever that might be.

Requires keeping an open mind. So, yes, that would be liberal.

If you want the news to look at both sides of an issue ... you just might want a liberal media.

The dislike of the liberal media did not begin when most Americans thought the media was too biased to one side of the political spectrum. It began when people thought the media should be MORE biased in favor of the official government policy during the Vietnam War. Nobody with any sense thought the news was anti-war. It just wasn't pro-war enough.

5. Classical definition - Not quite
Because he doesn't discuss his politics or allow them to influence his work, he's cracked down just as hard on Clinton over his years.

Modern day Liberal, being someone who doesn't support the president with all his heart and soul... well, yes, he is.

6. He decided to run with the TANG story instead of forged yellowcake docs
And then the "controversy" that arose from the way CBS handled the TANG story ended up burying that story too.

That alone makes me suspect all associated with CBS news.

7. Would a liberal own a ranch with Donald Rumsfeld?
Would a liberal be a member of the Council on Foreign Relations?

Would a liberal support the official lie of the murder of John F Kennedy? (Before America got a chance to see the Zapruder film, he did, and said it showed Kennedy's head "rocket forward").

Sure. Heck - why not?

A few reasons why I'm not a "liberal."

9. "Bush is the President. He makes the decisions..."
and...wherever he wants me to line up, just tell me where."
---on the Letterman show following 9-11

Dan's a corporate centrist at best, but hardly a leftie

12. Agreed, and also...
I believe "Fahrenheit 9/11" has a rather chilling clip of Dan Rather "reporting" on the war in Iraq immediately after its start. In the clip, Rather's doing so much cheerleading and "this American is mighty proud" jingoistic bullsh*t that one expects him to break into "The Battle Hymn of the Republic" at any moment.

11. I beleive that Dan was "Necklaced".
Rove and co. probably has some serious dirt on him thus keeping him in line.

13. He said in an interview decades ago that he was a Democrat.
The important thing to remember about Dan is that he is first a journalist and that he was a war correspondent. He never let his politics get in front of his journalistic integrity, but I guess newsmen like Dan have gone the way of the dinosaur and have been replaced with the new face of journalism, Laurie Dew. (sp?)
