In the UK, there is a party called the "Liberal Democrats" |
|
We should have one of those here, just so there's no confusion...don'tcha think?

2. I kind of like the idea of four parties. Just enough to |
|
screw with the numbers in terms of getting a majority. Really force bi/tri/quad partisanship. Or a free-for-all, whichever.
Authoritarian
Conservative
Liberal
Libertarian
Let's see who gets into bed with whom.

3. Well, since they're even MORE of minority party than our own Dems, |
|
I'm not so sure that they merit emulation...

It'd just be nice so as to eliminate all the speculation. ;)

But a rose by any other name, and all that. The Democratic party needs alot more than a name change, imho. ;-)
Personally, I'd just as soon jettison the Democratic party altogether and raise up a new Progressive Party to be the true "Party of the People".

6. My "boss" just called me that today |

Guess he's glad * won. Also, I've been "warned" to stay off these sites. Ha! Where does he think I get all my current news? Funny thing is that most of my co-workers feel the same as I do, I'm just more vocal. Lock-down.

Due to the fact that I'm a Political major...according to my European Politics Professor, the Labor party in Britain is more liberal in it's platform than the Liberal Democrat party is in their platform.

9. A debatable proposition |
|
The typical Labour party member is probably further left then the Liberal Democrats, but the Labour leadership (who are definitely in control at the moment) are further to the right.
For instance, the Lib Dems want to introduce an extra tax level (50%) for earnings above £100,000. They were against invading Iraq. Labour want to introduce compulsory national ID cards; the Lib Dems oppose them.

10. Party names and definitions don't translate too well. |
|
A Liberal Democrat in the US is a Social Democrat in the UK, which is different from a Liberal Democrat in the UK. A Liberal Democrat in the US is similar to a New Democrat in Canada, which is different from a Liberal in Canada.
Confused yet?
