Apparently SEARS Supports the Military Reservists by WORD AND DEED!
Thats pretty commendable imo.

I dont know how many of you have seen this email.

Let's all shop at Sears!!!!!!

I assume you have all seen the reports about how Sears is treating its reservist employees who are called up? By law, they are required to hold their jobs open and available, but nothing more. Usually, people take a big pay cut and lose benefits as a result of being called up . . Sears is voluntarily paying the difference in salaries and maintaining all benefits, including medical insurance and bonus programs, for all called up reservist employees for up to two years. I submit that Sears is an exemplary corporate citizen and should be recognized for its contribution.

Suggest we all shop at Sears, and be sure to find a manager to tell them why we are there so the company gets the positive reinforcement it well deserves.

Pass it on.

So I decided to check it out before I sent it forward I sent the following email to the Sears Customer Service Department:

I received this email and I would like to know if it is true. If it is, the Internet may have just become one very good source of advertisement for your store. I know I would go out of my way to buy products from Sears instead of another store for a like item even if it was cheaper at the other store.
Here is their answer to my email. . . . . . .

Dear Customer:

Thank you for contacting Sears.

The information is factual. We appreciate your positive feedback. Sears regards service to our country as one of greatest sacrifices our young men and women can make. We are happy to do our part to lessen the burden they bear at this time.

Bill Thorn

Please pass this on to all your friends, Sears needs to be recognized for this outstanding contribution and we need to show them as Americans, we do
appreciate what they are doing for our military!!!!!

Any one know how sears is as far as bush supporting in general?

4. What does Sears think about the Commander in Chief lying to
America and causing over 1200 unnecessary deaths?

No wonder no Sears & Roebuck store in the country has any business. Screw 'em! It is nothing but a paper company anyway.

7. If snopes says it's true, I believe it.
It's good to hear. My son's car needed a battery last week, and I bought it at Sears rather than Wally-World. Now I'm glad I did. Good to know they do something right, since they charge twice as much as Wally-World for a car battery.

I'm starting to get really sick of Wally-World. They are part of the koolade distribution network, I think.

8. I've never really like Sears, and I'm Jewish so I don't holiday shop...
But next time I need something from a department store, I'll slide into the local Sears store.

Finally, someone puts something concrete behind the hollow "support the troops" mantra.

I liked it when we had a choice. KMart pulled out of Texas not too long ago. :(

15. Unfortunately...
While I applaud Sears conduct, the bad news is that they are merging with Kmart. As bad as Walmart is, Kmart is worse. 81% of Walmart political contributions go to Republicans. Kmart donates 90% to the Repukes. Kmart recently closed a store in my area and left their employees high and dry. They provided NO help to them in finding new employment, applying for benefits, etc. It was just a huge "buh bye" exercise.

18. This is what should be meant by "SUPPORT OUR TROOPS"
Sears should trumpet this from the hilltops. I can see a whole series of commercials to go up against that pablum WalMart's been airing about how good their employees are. Sears has a wonderful story here. This is truly supporting the troops.

God Bless Sears.

(but I gotta wonder ... what will their merger with/acquisition by KMart mean to all this?)

it makes up the difference between military pay and civilian pay for activated reservists and Guardsmen.

21. I emailed Bill Thorn about the merger with Kmart, The answer?...
It was a "corporate" response in the form of a press release with glowing descriptions of both Sears & Kmart, but without the answer to my question. I fear this policy is on it's way out.

22. i wonder which other companies have similar policies?
Do we have a list? Can we make one? I may not support this damned war, but I will support the troops by shopping at places that support them (AND their families). It always makes me feel good to know that there are some companies that will go above the minimal legal requiremnets for their workers, even when it is not financially in their best interests.

Kudos to SEARS!

23. Is this for part time employees as well as full time?
The reason I ask is that Sears was one of the first major companies to make nearly all its employees part time WITHOUT benefits. A friend worked for them. Part time was under 40 hours a week and practically EVERYONE worked under 40 hours a week. Of course this was 15 years ago - maybe they have full-time employees again.
