Bill Maher on Larry King -- Must think he's going to live forever?
Edited on Tue Nov-23-04 09:49 PM by The Backlash Cometh
I know there are people on Du that swear by Maher, but I am not one of them. Here's the latest bonehead thing he's said. First, he said that he does not like libraries (big zero in my book) and then he says that the presidential libraries are there for ego purposes. I guess he's never heard of a little thing called history.

This came up because they were discussing the Clinton library, and the thought that crossed my mind was, well, if you all had gotten the record straight the first time, Clinton wouldn't have a need to have a library to give history his side of the story.

Sorry, ya'll, had to purge.

1. I agree with Bill about half the time.
That half makes it worthwhile though.

3. Oh come on.....himself and the Annie are sooooo close.
However, he doesn't have a problem slamming her down and he has. She wasn't on his program most of the season because I think she was pissed. She was supposed to be part of his panel. When she did finally make an appearance it wasn't in person.

I personally wouldn't want to be buddies with Maher because he is basically a loner.

8. Annie needs no help
I think Coulter does a good job of making herself sound like a smacked ass. If she's going to represent RW on Real Time, I'm OK with that.

4. HE also felt that Atrest was justified to go into the stands
and start smacking people around. " how could he look his buddies in the face if he let some fan hit him with a cup"

6. I look at it another way. Americans are just losing control
and the price of a ticket does not allow you to cross a certain line. What happened that night was something that had been building for a long time. I would blame stadium security for not controlling the matter sooner. Had they started ejecting fans months ago for this kind of behavior, it may never have happened.

7. I think
you are right. Some of the fans should be kicked out before it gets that bad.

11. He could have filed an assault charge or made a complaint.
going into the stands makes him wrong , now he pays , the fans are being charged too! He endangered people with is actions much more than getting hit by a plastic cup with ice, oh ya they threw pop corn at him.

17. some food for thought
"It's 2004, not 1947. Today's young African-American men don't want any part of turning the other cheek or accepting "disrespect" from a predominantly white fan base, mainly because these are largely young men from the inner cities of America where your self-respect or "heart" can be a perishable quality that's hard to get back once it's lost.

Some of them are also the children of single mothers with no men in their lives to show them the true meaning of being a man. As recent visitor Bill Cosby told a Milwaukee audience, much of the violence found in these young men is the result of the hole in their souls that has never been filled.

They're not allowed to tell anyone they are hurting, so instead, they turn their anger outward, often with disastrous results."

19. When minorities grow up realizing that there's a double standard
in our nation, you can better believe that they have different fuses.

10. Not a view that's been widely thought about.
Bill Maher made me think about the jocks' side of things in the NBA, which I don't watch.
He actually sounded great tonight, IMHO.

9. About libraries

He didn't say it very well, but what he was saying was that he doesn't like presidential libraries, and spending so much on what is essentially an ego trip for the ex-pres. If you listened closely at one point I believe King asked him if he was saying he doesn't like libraries, and he clarified *presidential* libraries.

12. Presidential libraries are built for their
egos, in the name of historical purposes, which probably also applies.

13. I think he's funny once in a while...Artest wanted 2 months off to promote
his new CD....fighting in the stands was one way to get what he wanted. Millionaire juvenile delinquents.

Bill believes his own hype.

14. I can think of many offensive suff he said in the past - more serious too
Lately, I choose to ignore them, cuz part of what he's been saying lately was just so well put....
But I never count on him, so I am not surprised.

15. He doesn't matter...
He's an showman...I find him mildly entertaining some of the time. I wouldn't take anything he says too seriously since it's all schtick and none of us know what he really thinks about anything. I personally don't give a shit what he thinks, as it effects me not one bit.

16. SO Few People On Corporate TV Who Are Basically On Our Side

He's a comedian, and at least he's one of those comedian's who adds and genuinely cares about important political and social commentary vs whining about everyday situations, like a Jerry Seinfeld.

If HBO cancels Real Time (which is rumored) - I for one, will miss his voice.

20. I just like him because his answers are so unexpected.
I believe he's a misogynist from way back, must have had sisters like Freud did, however he does answer things in an unexpected way.
