Rummy "screws up" post war planning.....says Kristol
Powell and Joint Chiefs Nudged Bush Toward U.N.

By Dana Milbank and Thomas E. Ricks
Washington Post Staff Writers
Thursday, September 4, 2003; Page A01

"People close to the administration said the Joint Chiefs and Powell (a former chairman of the Joint Chiefs) did not win a bureaucratic battle as much as Rumsfeld lost one. "Rumsfeld lost credibility with the White House because he screwed up the postwar planning," said William Kristol, a conservative publisher with close ties to the administration. "For five months they let Rumsfeld have his way, and for five months Rumsfeld said everything's fine. He wanted to do the postwar with fewer troops than a lot of people advised, and it turned out to be a mistake."

It's nice to see them turn on each other....

suddenly speaking out, It sounds like an orchestrated attempt to shift blame to Rumsfeld....but only beneath the surface.
Rumsfeld's "health concerns" will probably be the reason for his resignation and he will be honored by Bush for his superb service to his country.

Rumsfeld is done. He'll need to spend "more time with his family" real soon ;-)

3. It's wasn't bad "postwar planning," it is a bad war
Edited on Thu Sep-04-03 06:07 AM by teryang
It aint over till its over. It was wrong before it started, conceived for ill motives. It was and is still an illegal war. It was a perverted deviation from longstanding American and international foreign policy standards. Naturally, it's a failure.

Trying to save face, they limit their tepid critiques to "winning the peace" and "post war planning." Trying to salvage something from this unmitigated military and political diaster is merely an attempt to save the political hides of a corrupt and illegitimate group of usurpers. They care nothing for their own country or its soldiers. They are murderers, wasting lives and untold resources to enrich themselves and their corporate supporters.

6. Teryang, you have mastered the art of waxing poetic, succinctly
hitting the nail on the head and hopefully in a few political coffins.

7. exactly...
... no amount of "post-war" planning would have made any difference. We don't belong there, we are not wanted there, and the blame-shifting is little more than amusing at this point.

15. Bingo! Would it have gone better even if they had planned for it?
If they had planned for the postwar they would have needed at least twice as many troops. If they needed twice as many troops, they would have been stretched so thin they wouldn't have been able to start the war in the first place. After all, Bush was sure god was on his side. Why plan?

12. Rumsfeld
Don't forget who advises Rumsfeld, the Defense Policy Board. One of the members is Newt Ginrich. No wonder the US screwed up in Iraq. He is also gunning to become the Secretary of State. God help us all if this happens.

16. Since Kristol told them how to get in...perhaps
he can tell them how to get out. This is no time for him to bail - as if he never had anything to do with it. PNAC? Remember?
