Here's a radical idea: a TV spot featuring ALL the Dem candidates.
Edited on Thu Sep-04-03 06:53 AM by FlashHarry
United against Bush. They should get together and agree not to go negative against each other. Rather, in their individual campaigns, they should highlight their positions on the issues instead of slinging mud.

Here's the joint spot:
"While we may not agree with each other on every issue, we all agree that, for the good of the country, it is essential that President Bush not serve a second term. In the coming months, study the candidates. Decide for yourself. Vote your conscience in the primaries. But come November, vote Democratic."

I know it'll never happen, but what do you guys think?

1. Awesome idea....
I really wish it would happen. I wish Democrats had the ability to show that kind of solidarity instead of constantly snarking at each other.

However, I won't be holding my breath on this one. It's a shame...

2. I Like It!
The reason that "United we stand, divided we fall" is a cliche is because its TRUE!:kick:

True Democratic unity will give the rethuglicans a collective nightmare.

4. I like it too...air up to the convention
Maybe each candidate could read a segment of the opening of the declaration. (And have spots where different people say different lines. Have them all say it up to the King George part and mix and match)

5. I think it would offer a positive message
to counteract the perceived negativism inherent in attacking Bush--which they must do.

6. Terrific idea!
They need to disrupt the standard propaganda that Dems can't agree and don't have a plan. It is BS, of course but the disgusting Republicans learned LONG ago that you don't have to tell the truth at all...just repeat the same lies loudly while marching in lock-step and the sheeple follow, no matter how illogical it may be.

7. I think it would rock
and it would immediately throw me into an ABB stance. Even Lieberman would get my vote if they could unite for that single spot.

8. To whom should one suggest this?
The DNC? The DLC? The individual candidates? I'm not talking out my ass here; I actually write TV ads for a living. I think this is doable. Plus, just imagine the PR it would get! Political advertising that is actually positive???

I think it could even be slightly goofy, e.g. an off-screen voice could ask, "who has the best health care plan?" To which, everyone would raise their hands--similar to the hilarious press conference scene in The Right Stuff. As long as the vibe was relaxed and somewhat jovial, I think it could work.

Here's another one, by the way (just a tag): 3 million jobs lost since January 2001. George Bush isn't working. Simple. To-the-point. Resonant.

11. I've had this idea myself
and posted it on other threads. Not the commercial part, which is a great idea, but my thought was for a Dem Prez rally (free coverage) wirh all espousing unity, solidarity and support of each other in the battle against whistle ass and an aknowledgement to limit negative campaigning in the primaries and to keep their eyes on the BIG prize in Nov. '04.

12. I know exactly the scene------------
We have some group of lawyers ad here in Maine---maybe it's nation wide. Anyway, these guys are walking tall and strong down a corridor together (the lawyers), shoulder to shoulder, and a couple of them are pounding a baseball bat into their hand (slap, slap)----you know, like here come da' gang dat's gonna bust your knees. I like that image. The manly, man look and out front could be Mosley-Braun with a "da women are gonna bitch your face off Bush".

14. "Are you better off than you were four years ago?"
Something along the lines of getting America back on track - back on the road to prosperity (or something like that).

Back to our position as the beacon of hope & freedom for the rest of the world.

It could be a tag-team voice-over while the candidates walk near a closed factory, then an image from an anti-American rally overseas.

I know these ads are usually short (for good reason) but maybe after showing the Democratic contenders, you could end with short snaps of heroes like FDR, Truman, the Kennedy's...

BTW, the quote in my subject line (for the many youngsters on DU) was originally uttered by Ronald Reagan during a presidential debate against President Carter in 1980, and was probably the single moment that transformed that election from a squeaker into a landslide. Wouldn't it be great to use it against his love-child Dumbya?

15. Exactly.
It would be great if they went for it. Who do you think would be the first to break ranks and go negative? .....Lieberman?

I know it's not politics as usual, but neither is Bush Inc.
