Review of the bush/showtime movie in NJ Star Ledger... |
|
The guy is pretty scathing in pointing out how blatantly a propaganda piece this is. He even says they should have an 800 number on the screen for campaign donations. And he points out that the movie portrays the admin as coming into office as wanting to fight terror but having to overcome the lunkheaded dems to do it, and he states that this is by all facts not correct at all and that bush was more concerned with other things.
However, he also throws jabs at the "left wing sloganeering of the West Wing" and "liberal fantasy pieces like the WW and Primary Colors". But he says that at least those shows/movies make their protaganists flawed humans as oppossed to this movie which makes him out to be a superhero.

I am one of those people that still read the actual paper as well as on-line ones so I had to do a little searching.

"DC 9/11: Time of Crisis," a Showtime original movie about the Bush administration's response to the worst terrorist attacks in American history. It's a valentine to Bush, who's portrayed as a Gary Cooper type (solitary, decisive, tough yet sensitive) and a gift-wrapped present to the right-wing talk radio listeners who think Saddam Hussein was directly responsible for 9/11 and that the attacks on the Pentagon and World Trade Center wouldn't have happened if Bill Clinton had been more macho.
The movie, which stars Timothy Bottoms as Bush, is way, way out of character for Showtime, a pay cable network best known for socially liberal, taboo-busting dramatic series like "Queer as Folk." It plays more like the first original movie made for Fox News Channel.

...I'd buy this thing up and re-release it in a few years...after adding a laugh track for accuracy.

Someone taking the movie and doing a "Mystery Science Theater 3000" treatment? Have Al Franken comment.

5. I hope Michael Moore reads this review... |
|
... and scripts his Fahrenheit 9/11 to expose this bogus movie.
Also, look on the bright side, the Moore flick will reach more people and be released in the more strategic time period.

11. I'd love to get hold of a copy of the movie ... |
|
I'm supposed to be doing an article on the administration's use of propaganda, and this looks like a great example.
I hope it becomes a cult classic, like Ed Wood's films -- with the audience yelling smartass comments all the way through!

14. Showtime makes crappy films. |
|
What they did to Anne Rice's "Feast of All Saints", for example, was terrifying.
Their original series aren't of the highest caliber either.
So, that paired with "Bush as hero"?? Eww.
