Thankful
As depressed as we have all been, I am thankful that for the first time in History, Iraq will have a democratic election. I think that is wonderful.

2. Actually, no, they won't have a Democratic election
The hand picked puppet regime will maintain dictatorial control with a phony election to make a bogus attempt at legitimizing it.

There will NEVER be a democraticlaly elected government in Iraq.

6. Any bets on how many more?
I say no responses with a final count identical to what we have now within five minutes.

5. Let's not
count our ballots before they're cast. I hope to be thankful for fair elections worldwide at some point in the near future - but for the time being, it seems that it will be a miracle if candidates and voters live long enough to see the election at the end of January.

And yes, I would have loved to have seen a truly democratic election here, as well.

Sorry to rain on your election parade...

7. I don't understand
Why so negative....we are Democrats...we should be thrilled with the upcoming election in a non-democratic Country. Have we become so bitter that we can't accept ANY good news ??

9. What fucking good news? There WILL NOT BE DEMOCRATIC
ELECTIONS IN IRAQ!!!

The oil companies have the puppets they need so they cannot afford democratic elections.

what you will have is a sham, no different from the brutal regime that preceded the current brutal regime.

10. Not at the cost of thousands of lives
Believe it or not, some folks couldn't care less about our so called ideals of democracy.

Hell, I would be a lot more thankful if we could restore some semblance of demcoracy to our own country.

13. so far we've seen
Edited on Wed Nov-24-04 11:06 AM by Lefta Dissenter
how many political and/or religious leaders get bumped off in Iraq? Who'll be left to run? Oh yeah, I remember... Allawi. Who's going to run against him? Anyone left who is still alive?

Yes, WE are Democrats, and, as such, WE must remain realistic. It's the rose-colored 'spreading democracy' glasses that have created the quagmire (and yes, that's what it is) in Iraq... and when there is some good news, I'll celebrate with joy.

and I'll edit by stealing from another thread... yes, I'm grateful this is not my child having to walk past dead bodies on his way to school in the mornings... though I'm sorry we created the environment in which this unnamed boy has to.

Edited on Wed Nov-24-04 11:15 AM by Walt Starr
You've bought the bullshit lie hook, line, and sinker.

You have become a propogandist.

Sorta like saying you're opposed to "revisionist activist judges".

20. It would be better if it were not being rushed because of an American
timetable. Much better if the country were actually ready to have an election. The US failed utterly in laying the groundwork for it. Not surprising considering how anto-democratic the Bushists and their Repuiblican and freeper lackies are. The treasonous bastards! Right?
