Do you know any liberals who have already fled the U.S.? |
|
I know 2 people now. One of them is leaving today for Germany. He just got a contract there for work. He has no plans to return to the US anytime soon. The 'election' is what sent him away. The job just made it possible.
The other went to Canada a week ago and is taking her nursing skills with her to Calgary.
I know someone else who is transferring to an Italian university and moving in with his grandma in Venice as soon as he can get the transfer.
The rightwing propagandists who call themselves the news media like to tease liberals about threatening to leave the U.S. --but I now know 3 people who are really doing it!
I am getting passports in order and looking at work in Canada myself. I hate the direction we are headed and I want to have options for me and my family if we need them.
Do you know anyone who has actually left this country or is about to?

...been thinking about it, and the election triggered it. I think this country is in for a very rude awakening. I mean, how long can a society exists if its foundation is greed and ignorance?
It's now IF the Great Depression will come, it's WHEN!

Friends moving to Canada, but I don't know if Canada is safe enough. Lots of talk of annexation and Canada signed a treaty 2 years ago to deport draft dodgers. I have 2 sons one will be 18 in May and the other will be 16 in July. Plus an 11 year old daughter. I am terrified, and would move if their father would allow it, but he has his freaken head in the sand on this one!!! I am really conflicted about this....

6. Hard to imagine annexation. That's a GOP pipe dream. |
|
I know about the draft dodger treaty, but if you become a Canadian citizen the US can't touch you.
I'd be scared if I had teenage sons right now too. I am worried enough about my 13 year old daughter!
I hear Costa Rica is nice.

4. Early retirement (not mine, I'm sad to say) |
|
An acquaintance of mine bought property on Prince Edward Island about 12 years ago for vacation and retirement. He's suddenly decided to go into "semi-retirement" and will be moving to Canada next summer. I wouldn't call him a liberal, but he is highly skeptical of government, and despises Bush and his cronies.

The day after the selection, I wanted to leave very badly, but after all the news of voting irregularity got out, I got pissed. Now, I want to fight. I may still leave (to Japan), but I'm going to be fighting in the meantime.

I have a friend who bought a condo in Toronto last week. He doesn't see a bright future for NYC or the U.S.
My partner requested a job transfer to Canada. She might just get it, too.
My partner also was surprised to find last week that she already is an Irish citizen because her parents were born in Ireland. It's certainly not the first country on our emigration list. But at least it's still a democracy.

Actually, its just college. But I'm still stuck in it for another 4 years (gonna take a year for foreign exchange to Japan). After I graduate, I'm looking for jobs outside of the states.

10. We plan on an early retirement.. |
|
We have an offer on our home...Not the price we would have gotten a year ago...But California property is astronomic...Should help propel us to the less expensive areas of Southern Europe...Early Retirement...US economy will be in the tank as Robert Reich says.. We hope to beat that...We will live in the South of France by August 2005...Too late to see the 05 Tour De France....

Waiting to see what happens with the draft before moving -- but now they already have a toehold there. They're thinking of their kids.

I moved to Montreal, Canada after the last selection in 2000, I received permanent residency in 2002 and should be a citizen in 2005.
My kid brother (draft age) is transferring to McGill next Summer.

16. My friend's brother moved to England. He voted for Bush in 2000. |
|
After he saw what Bush was all about he thought the country was going to hell.
Part of me want to wring his neck and say, "Sure, help to crap this country up and then leave," and the other part wants to congratulate him.
