Drug Reps wear nice shoes, and know how to vacation too |
|
My neighbor works for a very LARGE Pharmaceutical co and just won a trip for being top rep selling a drug that has been on the market 11 years. The company has been battling the generic formula for 3 years. In the mean time "Ralph" goes on a all expense paid cruise on a Disney ship exclusively chartered for top ranked reps, their managers, and VPs of sales.
They ain't gonna be eatin pbj's for seven days either.
I find this disturbing - An eleven yr old drug, generic being blocked, top sales rep rewarded, low income patient denied access to drug that would cost 10% of the decade old "blockbuster"
I hope he brings me a shirt.

1. Pharmaceutical sales is widely regarded... |
|
...as the most lucrative sales position out there. Sure, sales superstars in any field have enviable lifestyles, but, for the rank-and-file sales person, it's tough to beat drug sales.

3. hmm, is this imitrex by any chance? I know you can't say, tho. |
|
but it sounds about right with the timelines. all the drugs should be made more accessible, there is no reason not to except for plain 'ol greed, it's disgusting. how can they sleep at night?
I just spent $150 last weekend on 9 Imitrex at Costco, and feel so bad for people that can't afford to get rid of migraines and have to suffer through them, and probably miss work or be less productive so end up with even less money. just one example, for pain relief, and then there's the drugs that could have saved or extended people's lives. I guess profit before people is the American way.
I can hardly wait for Michael Moore's new film.

When my husband and I first got married we lived next door to a Big Pharma salesman. At most he worked two afternoons each week. He was always home puttering around the house. Every Friday was golf day, and not with clients either. His wife was a stay-at-home mom, so their only income was his commission and whatever salary he made.
We currently have a friend who works for a different Big Pharma company. This friend won a week for two to a FL resort community last year. This friend's spouse also works, but the bread winner in the family is the pharma employee. This friend claims to work 60 hour weeks, but it's difficult to believe that's the case. I'm sure there are long weeks here and there, but this friend has lots of time for fun stuff whenever she's not on the road.
My current friend works for a company who has been in the news recently, and I've heard complaints from their household about the media beating up on them and also about the guvmint regulations. Listening to them is difficult to stomach. :puke:
