What's happening with gasoline prices? |
|
(Note to mods, this is an economics thread)
Locally, prices have dropped about 5 cents over the past week. Bear in mind that Alberta is a petroleum producer, the loonie's on a tear (over and above the greenback falling like a rock) but oil tends to be tied to the greenback. Here the equation is relatively simple - because gasoline is produced locally, it's priced in loonies and the global price is coming down (for whatever reason) so we're seeing the benefits (slightly delayed).
What's happening in other parts of the world and what's the rationale?

I saw gas prices go from 72.9 to 80.3 in the course of 2 hours yesterday. Now it's back at 72. I dunno but it seems strange.
