Quote from John Chrysostom, ancient X-tian Bishop: Tell to gloating Pukes
In a discourse (number 5) against Judaising Christians (i.e. Christians who liked to share parts of Jewish life with Jews), John Chrysostom (a presbyter in Antioch in the 380s CE, later Patriarch of Constantinople)makes the following observation: "Just men usually act modestly after they have done just deeds; the wicked generally exalt themselves after they have sinned." If this does not describe to a tee the hatemongering Republican base's behavior since the election, I do not know what does. You might give this quote to the next gloating hatemongering wingnut you see.

1. And this is going to affect them?
When will we learn they just don't give a fuck?

They care about winning and that's all. Morality, ethics, even their religion are absolutely meaningless.

THEY ONLY CARE ABOUT GETTING THEIR WAY, NOT HOW THEY GET IT.

2. I am suggesting you do it to underscore their hypocricy to them
Calm down, dude. John Chrysostom is one of the most beloved of Christian scholars in history. That quote is not something they can brush off in three seconds. At least they will become deer in the headlights for a moment.

3. THat's a lovely idea, but not gonna' happen
I've been fighting religious hypocrites for years, spinning their own rhetoric and dogma back at them.

What I've learned is that they just don't care.

Theydon't care what Jesus said (per the bible). They're not going to care what some scholar said. They hate scholars.

4. "...the wicked generally exalt themselves after they have sinned."
Exactly.

"Just men usually act modestly after they have done just deeds; the wicked generally exalt themselves after they have sinned."

Thanks, greekspeak!

I know gloating.

5. religious right has never heard of this guy
I grew up as a so bapt.

The chronology we learned in church: there's the Bible, the events in the book of Acts, the Dark Ages (dark because ruled by the Catholics) and then so baptists. Also, Roger Williams was a baptist.

And sometimes someone would mention the Anabaptists as a flicker of light in dark times. (Later I learned Anabaptists were notorious in their time for believing in 'free love,' no marriage necessary because the End Times are near, etc. Sort of weird that some so bapt saw them as a precursor.)

We never heard the phrase 'Early Church Fathers,' let alone specific names.
