true story about Amway
I have been reading alot about Amway and the boosh/Christian connection, and thought I would share this true story --

About 12 years ago, my husband and I bough our first house, in a working poor neighborhood. We ended up living fairly close to a second cousin on my husbands side, that up to that time, we did not know well. This women was a single mother, with a lot of difficulties, not being able to hold a job, alcohol abuse. During the next few years, the cousin lost her parents (and support system). We lived about a block away from the school where her child went, and stopped by one morning during all the chaos to check in with the school counselor to see how the kid was coping with losing his grandparents, how he was doing on school, what we could do.

We had a short general conversation about techniques to help this little one, and then the counselor said he would be happy to come over to our house that night to continue the conversation. So guess what, he came over, and did a big Amway presentation. We were shocked, and asked him to leave. Nicely.

No, we did not complain to the school, but looking back, I wish I had.

1. my High School biology teacher did the same thing
spent an entire 1-hour class period teaching us 10th-graders all about how Amway works, the how's and why's of multi-level marketing, and of courge bragged about how much money he was making

2. I've had my own tossings out the door of AMWAY cult followers
Really really bad experience. I get hives just thinking about it.

4. When I was little I thought Amway was a drug or something
My mother was a probation officer. Many of her clients were drug offenders. I overheard her conversations with close friends and relatives about people being pot dealers, cocaine dealers, etc. I also heard her refer to Amway dealers as a bad thing too. Not knowing what Amway was, I assumed the Amway dealers were criminal drug dealers.

5. We had some "supposed" friends several years ago that started dropping
by our house to chat. Although, it was odd because it was about 20 minutes out of their way to "stop" by our house. Finally, they asked my husband and I to come over for dinner. Sure enough, I excused myself to use their restroom and noticed I was using AMAY soap to wash my hands. It all made sense after that! Sure enough, my hubby and I had to listen to a big spiel on AMAY. I remember them saying it wasn't just about selling products but it was a new way of life for them:puke:

6. Amway folks stopped by my house exactly once
It was when I was a kid, we had just bought a new house with a barn. My parents were mucking out the barn (shoveling horse manure). Before going in the house, they took off the manure covered clothes on the back porch. (It was 11 wooded acres, not like suburbia where the neighbors would see).

So the Amway sales rep showed up as my parents were standing naked on the back porch covered in horses**t. We didn't have any more problems with them.
