Falwell recruiting for MM voters |
|
Falwell has sent out a recruiting bulletin to the flock for a ten million member MM coalition. He starts out telling everyone how they can join for free then goes for the money:
from his site: "However, because we need immediate funds to launch TMMC, I am asking readers to consider making a secure-online credit card contribution of $25 or more at www.faithandvalues.us. Your gift will assist us in also launching a nationwide voter registration campaign designed to bring millions more new “faith and values” voters to the polls in 2006 and 2008. In appreciation for your gift of $25 or more, we will send you the TMMC Charter Membership Card, The Moral Majority Coalition Call-To-Action Information Packet and two “I Vote Christian” window statics.
Someone sent me a copy of Falwell's email on the same subject and the paragraph read a bit differently: "However, because we need immediate funds to launch TMMC and to initiate a nationwide four-year voter registration campaign in 225,000 churches, I am asking you to consider making a secure-online credit card contribution of $25 or more at www.faithandvalues.us. Your gift will assist us in also launching this voter registration campaign designed to ultimately bring ten million new “faith and values” voters to the polls in 2008."
What's the best way to counter this on the left?

3. DON'T UNDERESTIMATE HIM! |
|
The only way we are going to beat these people is by sheer numbers of voters. And, as you can see from the last election, that is not going to be easy.
They may be most vulnerable on the morals issues - not the religious ones. These people are not any more moral than anyone else but we would have to show that to people in a meaningful way.
There are a lot of people out there who really don't like the right-wing. And the right-wing may distroy themselves with their arrogance. But I wouldn't depend on that.
Now Falwell is starting a legal program at his college to train lawyers who are faith-based in their approach to government.
If we can't get it across to people that if they remain apathetic they will no longer have a democracy - but will be living under a theocracy governed by puritans.

4. Robertson's Regents' university has had a law school for some time |
|
I believe Anita Hill (Thomas-Hill supreme court appointment hearing) studied at Oral Roberts U law school; the law school, medical school, and dental school were all closed because of financial problems.
A former dean of the Regents' law school (a black woman; religious right member) was appointed as the hiring supervisor for the Bush II administration.
I heard her speak in the late 90s; she was adamant that more 'born again christians' must be hired at the federal level in order to 'take back our country.'
(Sorry; I don't remember her name or title so cannot google.)

11. I really wish Michael Moore's next movie would be to expose |
|
these frauds for the money-loving, greedy bastards they are. Show how they live compared to most of the people who send them part of their food money - show the mansions, the cars, the help these frauds have, then maybe their followers will open their eyes for once and for all. Tell how Pat Robertson got 8 million to invest in his little diamond mine - where the Hell do his followers think he got that much money? God, people are dumb.

13. I'll be sending this along with a letter |
|
to my senator, John Edwards and my Dem rep. I'm not sure of the legality of what Falwell is doing and it seems he wants to hide it since he made sure the language was different from what is on the site and what he sends in an email to his flock. Surely, Edwards can do something about this if anything can be done.

14. Edwards doesn't have the time to do it |
|
Kerry has four more years, Hillary has two. Edwards has a little over a month.
I would love it if we could get Barack Obama to look into this--make a name for himself by squaring-away these muttonheads.

Writing to an out of state senator hasn't been fruitful for me in the past; they have their own constituents concerns. Who else or what organizations are willing to take these people on?

Yeah, join for free. Tell everyone you know to join for free. They'll keep sending out those hard-copy begging letters. At least you can bleed them of resources a little bit.

16. Can we all sign up for their literature, and then send it back? |
|
They might include a "postage paid" envelope -- I hear those are good for sending weighty rocks in the mail. We could tell them that we're donating stones for them to throw at "ssssssinners."
