Ladies, looking to move to Canada? Strippers get preferential treatment

The Opposition hammered at at Immigration Minister Judy Sgro Thursday over a controversial program that allows foreign strippers to obtain special work visas.

Both opposition MPs and reporters wanted Sgro to explain the exotic-dance program. The controversial program permits foreign strippers into the country on special work visas. Last year, 601 foreign dancers got temporary work permits; 582 of them from Romania.

Sgro concedes she is not a big fan of the program, but says the exotic dance industry has the right to bring in dancers from other countries if the market demands it.

She reminded reporters that exotic dancing is a thriving, legitimate business.
