Religious right counting on shrub to deliver "End times"

I work with some right wing christians. A friend I grew up with is a right wing christian. First, one of the guys I work with blurted out that born-again republicans, along with Jews, are "Gods new chosen people". I started laughing at the irony of it and he got very upset left the room. Then today I got a call from the born again I grew up with. He was all hyper and excited and told me that he cant be friends with me anymore because I'm not a born again and the end times are here and he has been chosen and the end times and....bla bla bla. Obviously his GOP nutcase church told him to cut all ties with non born agains. The religious right has risen to the level of cult now. One feature of cults is cutting off all contact with family and friends who are not members. A lady my wife grew up with has cut off all contact with her family because her right wing church told her she must do this. These people remind me of that hale-bop UFO cult. I truly think they see George Bush as the second coming. Its going to be interesting to see how all this plays out.

9. I believe it is a cult.

I hadn't gone to church in a few decades until my father died. Then I had to go. I was shock at how much of a cult it really was. And this was a Catholic mass. It was just as much a cult as the Hare Krishna's when I went there for the free vegetarian feasts.

I think it is going to get a lot worse before it will ever get any better. But there are a lot of non-believers and sane believers(I think) out there too.

20. A scary thought I've been having

Look at what the Bush administration is doing to the budget deficit. The current course is ruining the value of our currency, which will eventually lead to the ruin of our economy. It seems they just don't care, even though a party so entwined with big business should be very concerned. (Recall the recent prediction by a noted analyist that the U.S. has only a 1 in 10 chance of avoiding economic Armageddon. )

What if they really don't care because they believe the end times are coming and nothing will ever have to be paid back? If you have a terminal disease, why not just max out the credit cards and have everything you want in the time remaining?

If by chance the end doesn't come, the rest of us are going to be left with a hell of a mess.
