Is the fall of the ACLU planned?
Edited on Fri Nov-26-04 05:37 PM by ck4829
I don't mean 'planned' like when one RW Idiot calls another RW Idiot and plans something.

I mean 'planned' as when a bunch of wealthy Ultra-RW Idiots come together and plan things.

October 28, 2004: Stoptheaclu is registered
November 19, 2004: Joseph Farah of WorldNetDaily calls for the destruction of the ACLU
And then like magic, one day later.
November 20, 2004: WorldNetDaily announces the mobilization of stoptheaclu.org, a group dedicated to destroying the ACLU

Does it sound like we are dealing with a.... Vast Right-Wing Conspiracy?

1. That is SO
fucking ridiculous. Here's why: if one of those TOTAL bozoes had their civil rights trampled on, the ACLU would be FIRST in line defending them, loudly and longly.

What ridiculous sons of bitches.

You know what that calls for, right? More money contributed and more support for the ACLU.

I'm off to make a small donation (I joined as a member on November 3, after years of "meaning to.")

This should provoke a reaction of SUPPORT from all people who know the ACLU is a GOOD thing.

2. I never understood why
the ACLU was so demonized. They seem pretty non-partisan when it comes to defending the bill of rights. Didn't Rush Limbaugh go running to them when investigators dragged up his medical records?

14. Rush Limbaugh got help from the ACLU. But remember folks,
no good deed goes unpunished.

4. well, it's certainly hoped for

The ACLU was founded by an activist atheist. Its major emphasis throughout most of its history has been on getting enforcement and properly wide interpretation of the 1st Amendment, which is de facto the anti-theocracy provision of the Constitution.

The Christian Right, which is a political movement run purely for the benefit of the present day theocrats, of course regards the ACLU as its historically most immediate and painful enemy.

11. They're theocrats

America is only a sufficiently flat and prosperous piece of land with enough dupes in it, that's all that concerns them about it.

6. There is something weird going on regarding the ACLU
I just mentioned in another thread that I recently got an anti-liberal and anti-ACLU mailing that attempts to scare the reader into believing that the liberals and ACLU want to ban the ten commandments.

7. Links
I did find stoptheaclu.org after a couple of tries:

http://stoptheaclu.org/

and the Joseph Farah story:

http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=41492

It seems that both of these sites talk about a case involving the Boy Scouts.

According to stoptheaclu.org

"Not to be outdone, the ACLU won a lawsuit this week here in my home state of Illinois to limit the Pentagon's support of the Boy Scouts (because the Scouts reject atheist and homosexual Scoutmasters) "

According to the ACLU:

"In response to a religious discrimination lawsuit brought by the American Civil Liberties Union of Illinois, the Defense Department today agreed to end direct sponsorship of hundreds of Boy Scout units, which require members to swear religious oaths, on military facilities across the United States and overseas."

12. Definitely time to pony up some bucks --
that would otherwise go to buy christmas crap for my republican family members, and give it to the ACLU.

I've always wanted to be a Card-Carrying Member of the ACLU. What could be cooler -- honestly??

13. I joined on November 3
and thought it quite an appropriate response to the events of the day before. Eagerly awaiting my membership card, which they mailed on the 18th.

I encourage EVERYONE to join the ACLU, not just liberals. They defend us all.
