Holiday shopping DUers, please add to this list
Family won't take no for an answer when you tell them you don't want anything for the holidays? Here are some ideas for what to put on your Christmas list (note, this is an off-the-top-of-my-head list...please add more!!!)

Membership to local cultural institutions (I live in NYC, so this is dead easy). While I luckily don't have any conservative relatives, this might be the easiest for RW family members to go along with.

Donations on your behalf to legal funds or specific legal interest groups such as:

ACLU http://www.aclu.org
Planned Parenthood http://www.plannedparenthood.org
Southern Poverty Law Center http://www.splcenter.org/index.jsp

NGOs such as:
Heifer International http://www.heifer.org
CARE http://www.care.org

Environmental groups:
Greenpeace http://www.greenpeace.org
Sierra Club http://www.sierraclub.org

1. Good idea...
It will be fun to get this conversation going:

Freeper relative: "What do you want for Christmas this year?"

Me: "Nothing. Just make a donation to the ACLU in my name."

Freeper relative: (long pause) "How about a nice toaster oven?"

2. Conversation continues:
"Nah. Seriously. I don't need anything, but I would love it if you'd give a donation to ACLU or HRC or Amnesty International in my name. That'd be great. Would you like the same?"

3. That's why I threw in cultural institutions
I mean, would they really deny you a membership to the local Children's museum?

Of course, I suppose you could piss of creationists by asking for a membership to the local natural history museum!

5. Do we HAVE any creationists in NYC?
I see them all day long on the tour busses I work on, but they're from out of town. ;)
