My theory on why it's hard for Democrats to break through
Republicans try to have it both ways. When they run for office the GOP is anti-government. When they get into office they pass huge appropriation bills, spend $300 million on home heating assistance, accumulate 2 trillion in additional debt in 4 years etc.

It's hard for Democrats to run against people who are willing to give you two things at the same time. Desired spending programs and tax relief.

1. My own feeling is
Demos are just too honest, ethical and nice to compete against the republican slime machine. You would think this moral superiority would be a plus but in many folk's eyes it's a sign of weakness.

2. A lot of people's taxes will go up when Republicans
eliminate the deduction for state-taxes from federal taxes.
