Did Dubbya rig the election?
Did Dubbya rig the election?
Michael Meacher
Monday 29th November 2004

Michael Meacher smells something fishy in Bush's return to office. The evidence of fraud is not yet conclusive but, given the Republicans' record, it is all too plausible

The great mystery of the US presidential election was that the exit polls, which had been reliable guides in all previous elections, did not tally with the final results. Tony Blair, it is said, went to sleep on 2 November thinking John Kerry had won, but woke in the morning to find that George W Bush was the victor. Many Britons and Americans had the same

4. yes it happened but not as a centralized effort
a bunch of hyperloyal extremists independently took it upon themselves to "help things along".

Seriously, even if you could prove fraud in one district, there is no way to ever prove that there was a central conspiracy, and they know it. It's a little bit like terrorist cells - just because you take one down doesn't mean that you have any shit whatsoever on the organization as a whole.

That's what's so tragic about this - we may find smoking guns in the firing squad, but we will not ever find the squad captain.

6. Exactly.
Their tracks are covered so well. But what still gets me is that the repugs wouldn't give up as easily. Say that Kerry won under these circumstances. Don't think for a minute that chimpy's boys would go quietly into that good night.

5. Very detailed, well written and indepth, but …

In Florida, for example, the number of votes reported for all the candidates exceeded the maximum possible voter turnout by 237,522, so that a minimum of 3.1 per cent of the votes must be fraudulent, and possibly considerably more. Florida uses electronic voting machines in 15 counties, and these account for a majority of the state's residents.

None of this is conclusive evidence of fraud.
:wtf: It's either "must be fraudulent" or it is not "conclusive evidence of fraud". It can't be both.

7. Glad to see that the UK is not afraid to print such articles!
As an American, it makes me feel better knowing that word of the election problems gets noticed in other countries. As a citizen of the world, I hate the feeling that we let everybody else down by reelecting a total jackass.

Now if only OUR media could be bothered to print something and leave out the "conspiracy" crap.

But I've given up on our media totally. No more commercial tv for me except for the Daily Show. No cable either. Just DISH, selected channels only.

8. Imagine if the Democrats had stolen the election.
The mainstream media would be all over that story like shit on a wool blanket, wouldn't they? But what are they saying about all of the widespread irregularities and outright fraud that did occur? Well, they're saying that it might cause a civil war...in the fucking Ukraine. Christ.
