I'm not above asking people to read my thread below |
|
seriously I meant to start a discussion, and I only have one reply.
So what other things can you think of that will help our cause?
Do you think that my screenplay sounds interesting?
If so, please tell me all about it.

1. I don't listen to people that have Che avatars. |
|
If you have a shirt too, I will go out of my way not to listen to you.

2. What is wrong with Che? |

Seriously his heart was in the right place, I don't agree that killing is the answer, I feel that MLK is a far better way to go, but Che is inspiring me at the moment.
He was very progressive idealistically, and I agree with his power to the people message. If anything Che was not a hypocrite, he never asked his supporters to do anything he was not willing to do himself.
Sorry you feel the way you do.
I don't have a shirt, well not yet anyway. I asked my hubby to get me a cute girly one for Christmas, I'm a good looking girl and the shirt will make my boobs look great and help me make a statement that means a lot to me.

4. I don't necessarily think he was the worst person ever. |

I'm saying that using him as an avatar is stupid, and wearing a shirt with him on it is even more stupid.
Fidel Castro was actually the first to start using images of Che to build a sense of solidarity amongst the people. The mystification of an individual ostensibly to create a "hero" often serves this purpose, especially a so-called 'people's hero' such as Che.
He stuck to his ideals in face of absolutely insurmountable odds, that I will give you; unfortunately when he shot a deserter to prove a point, and continued this process of killing his own peeps, I began to disapprove of him more and more. I know you mentioned that he didn't ask his supporters to do anything that he himself wouldn't do...
But I say "end(ing) the problem (by) giving him a shot with a .32 pistol in the right side of the brain... (Che, explaining how he dealt with a deserter)" is awfully restrictive. But whatever. His violence (and responsibility for thousands, if not tens of thousands of Cuban deaths) aside, this about t-shirts and avatars.
As far as buying the t-shirt I just find it very ironic considering Che's disdain for the material, and the fact that he despised the very capitalism that breeds the slick "Che the Revolutionary T-shirt!" at your local hipster record store. It would seem wildly hypocritical to purchase something that embodies the very antithesis (anathema?) of the person you are purporting to support (by wearing the shirt.)
I consider odd, and mildly ironic, that someone who is in possession of a computer, an internet connection and other obvious signs of affluence would somehow feel a sort of connection to a man that fought your very way of life, regardless of whether it makes your "boobs look great."

On Edit:
Grammar, sentence structure.
Also, I don't know this is a discussion I feel like propagating. It's getting far too late. I think my point is rather explicit, and it really doesn't matter. It's not a big deal one way or another, and it's totally your life; don't take me any more seriously than necessary. I'm in a bit of a crabby mood (I didn't sleep a lot last night and I've been up longer than God,) so take that into consideration. :)

but I'll were a Che shirt so that I can have even more conversations about Che.
I didn't know about him shooting his own supporters, I missed that, but I am not a fan of Castro.
Maybe I believe more in the idea of Che, than the actual man.
Just because I own a computer doesn't mean I am in anyway affluent, it just means that I have a husband that would rather have a high speed internet connection than a decent car.
We are totally poor, and anyway, I don't ask people to do things that I don't do myself.
I don't think that Che would despise me, I think we would have an interesting conversation on Karl Marx and true communism. Maybe he'd hate me, maybe he wouldn't I don't know.
I think that he was a very complex person, that may possibly inspire some goodness and deep thought in the world, he has inspired me to put my money where my mouth is and so I like him enough to make him my avatar and buy a Che t-shirt.
I am in a revolutionary state of mind and the Che shirt will give me some strength to deal with the world, and it will make me happy, so I'm getting one. Plus if I buy one at my local hipster store and not someplace like Barnes and Nobles, I am supporting a local business that desperately needs some capital not necessarily some monster capitalist corporation.
On Edit: I hate that online their is no fonts to indicate mood and inflection, so I take absolutely no offense.
Also I am tired as hell myself, thanks for the conversation Have a nice night:hi:

I ...
I gotta say.
If you had a conversation with Che, and you told him that you are "totally poor" because you have high-speed internet (and a computer to use it) and a car AT ALL, and food...
I think perhaps you would be surprised to find the he did indeed despise you, if for no other reason than that statement alone.
We don't know poverty like that.
And yes, it does mean you are affluent beause you own a computer and have internet. Roughly 6% of the world has PC's. Roughly 3-4% have internet connections.
a quarter of the worlds population lives in "severe poverty."
Nearly 800 million people do not get enough food, and about 500 million people are chronically malnourished. More than a third of children are malnourished.
So.
You might be surprised how much disdain he would hold for you after such a small exchange. ;)
Maybe not though, you certainly do seem charming. Who knows. (and the impact of a good looking girl showing off her boobs in a shirt with your image emblazoned upon it. Well. Perhaps things wouldn't go the way I think they would. lol.)
:)
