I can't wait till December 26th.
Thats the day when all the (nutty) Christians get it out of their systems, the retailers stop with the relentless advertising and corporate abuse, all that lousy music stops playing.

what is Christmas to me:
-A time when people pretend to be happy
-A time for corporations to make money
-A time for people to get in even more debt
-A time for the religious nuts to spew their slime.
and lastly
-A time when the culture of this country is revealed for what it really is, fake.

just had to get that out of my system.

2. It's all a joke and a farce.
When you have no family, as I do, and you spend Christams as just another day where the only thing is Christmas Eve Service at your local church...well, you tend to look at it a little differently than most. A bit more reflectively, perhaps.

After all, it really is a retreaded Winter Solstice celebration, wrapped in retail. The Big J could come back, take a look at it and not grok it at all. Most likely, projectile vomit.

3. we should counter attack with a giftless Christmas campaign
Edited on Sun Nov-28-04 08:29 PM by eleonora
Christmas should be about spending time together. Instead everybody's drooling at the gifts and no one really wants to spend the evening together.

My family is repub, they have a lavish Christmas eve they invite us at at their home every year. Of course we go because they're family, but it's so fake. My cousins couldn't give a shit about me (except the oldest). I feel like Xmas is so robotic while I'm there. It looks good on the outside but there's no real warmth on the inside.

Proof? I never get a phone call for the WHOLE year, not even to ask me how I'm doing. Like they give a crap indeed. And it's all hugs when I'm there. PFFFFT

I should send them a card one day and tell them the whole truth and why I'm boycotting their Xmas

4. couldn't agree more
if the festive season was a time for reflection, a time for spiritual renewal or a time for friendship and family, I'd participate wholeheartedly. Unfortunately, it's a time for greed, self indulgence and sheer hypocrisy. The fact that we all "indulge" (I do NOT) while millions starve is obscene. Particularly so when the over-arching theme of Christmas is spiritual. "What do you buy the man who has everything?"...advice on how to stop buying useless crap that he doesn't need.

Man, I've got to start embracing the consumer culture or I'll die of apoplexy. Maybe I'll build an extension to my house to put all the "stuff" I've bought in it so I can show my friends and visitors all the "stuff" I've bought. Trouble is, I only buy what is absolutely necessary so my extension would be pretty damned empty.

5. Sadly I agree!
It used to be a lot more fun when I was a kid. I hate the commercialism, the spending.

But I must confess I am more aware of the needy in my community this time of year. This is a good coping technique for me - give to those who are in need. That's what I believe the holiday spirit is all about.

6. i disagree and if you truly feel this in this time of season
Edited on Sun Nov-28-04 08:48 PM by seabeyond
i wish you were able to spend it in an enviroment like mine and my family. it isnt about gifts so much, it is about beatuy and love and family. giving. joy

i never did holidays. i never did birthdays. since having kids though, i have learned to value these times. doesnt matter what holiday it is, it is a celebration of love and family. this is truly the meanings in our every day lives.

when i am out and about in this time of season, i greet strangers all around in joy and happiness. i on the other hand, thru my children have learned to live this year around. not a stranger we meet, with a smile for all. it is excalated, love, at this time of the year

so no, i dont agree with what you say, it is not what we create. and what we experience, each of us create. if that is how you see christmas, that is exactly what you will experience

9. I agree completely
xmas is a wonderful time around my family. It's a chance for all of us to MAKE TIME to get together. I'm an atheist, so I couldn't care less about the "reason for the season."

12. I'm agnostic, but my family is Catholic
I love Christmas. The warmth and love among family and friends is what makes it special.

10. I can't wait also...
I hate this time of year, it makes me depressed, all of this fake so call "christmas cheer" which nothing but BS. There is no more purpose for this holiday...Jesus would be sicken by the greed that goes on this time of year. And this year it's extra crappy this because of the fact that I know for certain that half of the US is full of idiots, and I still haven't gotten over my depression from election night.

11. I second that!
I detest the day after Thanksgiving until the day after Christmas. It's a pain in the keister.

But what gets me most is the marketing for the holiday that starts as early as August.

I just want to visit some country that doesn't celebrate Christmas that time of year and just disappear....
