Poll question: Anyone planning on protesting Bush inaugaration (a.k.a. Blue Flu Day?)
Edited on Sun Nov-28-04 11:09 PM by Lone_Wolf
It seems like a simple protest that might be effective.

"Take The Day Off To Remind George W. Bush That He
Also Works For 56 Million "Blue" Voters On Inauguration Day!"

1. Great idea
I work for myself. So maybe I'll just spend the day in a bar.

2. great idea
but I am one of those people who can't take a day off lightly. Am I essential? I wish.

Anyway I would love to go to Washington that day and be part of the sea of blue.

Remember in F911 the footage of people egging his limo? I laughed so hard. Of course, we never saw or heard about it until the movie. Thanks to our wonderful media.

3. I don't plan on going to DC, but I will take the day off...
...to protest the swearing in of the fascist Bush cabal.

4. How about an internat'l day of mourning....

for the 100,000 plus Iraqis killed in this sick and utterly unnecessary war? Jan. 20th makes sense. I'll stay home for that.

To me, it increasingly makes more sense to think in terms of internat'l solutions to what's going on in Washington. Blue staters make up about half of the US electorate but they are part of the vast majority of public opinion worldwide, particularly re. the "war" (massacre).

We should be thinking in terms of trying to tap into that right about now... or so it seems to me.

5. Good point...
When you look at it in terms of global population... we are the clear majority.

8. the numbers are actually much higher
I was listening to Air America Radio when they had on a female movie producer (documentary movie producer - does it make a difference) whose name escapes me

she was talking about how if a soldier is shot and killed in a battle, he/she is counted among the dead. But if the soldier is wounded in a battle and then dies later on the way to the military hospital, he/she is not counted among the dead. If the soldier was injured or killed by friendly fire or in a vehicle accident, even during a battle, he/she is not counted among the dead.

Bottom line, we can't trust our government. Boy makes me feel so safe to have bushco in charge!

9. oops
just reread your post and realized you were talking about the Iraqis killed.

what steams me is that we were supposed to be going in there for their benefit, yet we are ravaging their country, putting thousands out of work, destroying their homes and businesses, killing way too many innocents ---how do you tell the difference between the insurgents and innocent Iraqis? how do you tell the difference between Iraqis and terrorists who have come streaming into their country since the troops arrived? what a mess.

10. For sure. And you CAN"T tell the difference. And.....
at this point, is there really a meaningful difference between "innocents" and "insurgents"?

Is it unreasonable for citizens of a country which is invaded , whose infrastructure is devastated, whose POWs are tortured and killed, whose noncombatants are routinely killed, whose nat'l resources are "expoited" to take up arms against the foreign armies unleashing all of the above?

6. I heard about it for all of five seconds
as it was happening. I think at one point the cameras caught it and it was a live feed, so anyone watching at that moment saw it, but never again until F9-11. They quickly switched gears to how popular he* is. (Blech.)

14. I can't think of a better use of my vacation time
...than to use it for a trip to DC to tell Bush that he isn't my President. I also plan to visit some friends in New York.

I just wish January 20, 2005 wasn't on a Thursday. It would've been more convenient if it were on a weekend, but whatever.

15. I hope to go to DC too
Unless I hook up with DUers, I'd be by myself, though, so that makes me nervous.

20. You won't be alone.
There will be a lot of kindred spirits beside you, and as the date for the inauguration approaches, I'm sure there will be new threads popping up that'll help everyone coordinate their protest plans.

12. I'll use one of my personal days
I wouldn't take the day off "sick" for a non-medical reason. I like my boss and wouldn't be comfortable lying to her.

16. If you can't stand bush* or the DLC,
one trip to DC can combime both targets.

Attend the coronation protests in DC on Jan. 20th,

AND

Attend the Progressive Democrats Summit in DC on the 21st.
Make a 3 day weekend out of the trip.
Maybe groups of DUers can share expenses.
