Budget warning on US Social Security
By Christopher Swann
Published: November 29 2004 02:00 | Last updated: November 29 2004 02:00

Joshua Bolten, director of the White House's Office of Management and Budget, has said government finances may have to sink deeper into the red in order to fund the president's overhaul of Social Security.

Although the White House has not yet made detailed proposals for reforming the system - which provides retirement and disability benefits - the president is in favour of diverting a portion of payroll taxes into personal accounts. This would mean less tax revenue to fund the benefits of those already at or close to retirement. (Gloria's personal note: NPR said the other day that the first wave of baby boomers to receive social security will start to do so in 2007.)

Mr Bolten said personal accounts "could require additional borrowing". Chris Swann, Washington

Does anyone know where to go to read more about this plan to partially privatize social security? I've only heard and read overly general statements but I have yet to see an actual explanation on how it all works. Am I being overly optimistic for thinking an actual well thought and out and detailed plan even exists??

when it does come true it is as if no one ever said anything,
no warning from anyone,,, how could we know,,,, excuse,

2. Yep. If a Democrat speaks the truth...
then they're actually accused of trying to drag the economy down or *gasp* "playing politics"...because, you know, the opposition party shouldn't be able to oppose this admin. :grr:
