Shoshanna was captured and wounded just like Jessica Lynch. In fact she was held at gunpoint for several days by actual Iraqi soldiers. Do we hear about her?
Lori Ann Piestewa was killed in action serving her country. Do we hear much about Lori Ann?
Were there televised parades in their honor shown on CNN for these two brave women? I didnt see any.
Shoshanna is black, heavy set and a single mom. Lori Ann was also a single mom.

Bu$h had the opportunity to make progress along the racial lines in this country but he/Rove instead gave all the glory and attention to pretty little white Jessica and practically nothing to the other two women.
This was a statement against minorities and single parents in this country.
Are the war experiences of Shoshanna and Lori Ann of less merit than those of Jessica?

I'm not bashing Jessica Lynch here. I just feel that she is being used in more ways than one by Rove & co.

1. Lori Piestewa was Native-American, Shoshanna is black........
Edited on Thu Sep-04-03 01:02 PM by MoonAndSun
this is why they never got the notice or coverage that Jessica did. I do not blame Jessic or her family for going for the gold, i.e. telling a story and getting paid lots of money for it. If millions of dollars were staring me in the face, I do not see how I could turn it down.

But they should also prepare themselves for any backlash from this. I think there was an earlier post about a father whose son died in the same crash as Jessica who is furious. I will try and find the link.

13. I'm a veteran
and I can honestly say I would have turned that money down or insisted it be donated to the USO. Her making money off this propaganda story WHILE SOLDIERS ARE STILL BEING KILLED EVERY DAY is nothing short of a F***ING DISGRACE.

You are absolutely WRONG in your assumption that all people can be BOUGHT.

16. I'm not saying all people can be bought.....
but if you could make a million dollars and help out your family and friends and make their lives easier, I don't know if I could turn it down. I applaud your convictions, I'm just not sure about what I would do in her situation.

3. Good question...
Where are the book and the movie deals for THEM (or their heirs)?

This shows how little "Chip" Rove and his boss care about not only our wounded--and captured--troops in general, but about hard-working single moms, as well. They aren't the least bit interested in any "uniting" or "reaching out"; they only care about "firing up the base" (wingnuts). Too bad that "base" is only about 33% of the total vote--it won't work for ya next year, "Chip"! :grr:

B-)

4. Shoshanna:Black, Piestewa: Native American
compared to a young, slim blonde from Crackofmyass, W.Va they are not going to get much headlines. Lynch has been thoroughly used, I wonder what she will be able to tell in her new book after all she remmebers nothing from the incident right?

Nothing would have been made of Jessica either
if she had been fat and plain lookin. Also, the fact she was white probably helped although I don't think it was as big a factor as some make out. It had a lot to do with the fact that she was very photogenic.

5. Little Baby Jessica was never a PRISONER OF WAR...
she wasn't incarcerated or in prison.

She wasn't under any military jurisdiction while in the hospital in iraq.

She was just a wounded military person. Let's make it REAL clear...

6. Today's Chi. Sun-Times:
With spotlight on Lynch, war heroes left in dark

Snip:

Army Spc. Lori Piestewa, a member of the Hopi nation, was the first American Indian woman to be killed while fighting in the U.S. military and the first woman to be killed in the Iraq war. And Army Spc. Shoshana Johnson was the first black woman ever held as a prisoner of war.

In fact, few who saw Johnson among the male soldiers who were paraded on Iraqi TV after they were captured could forget the stunned and terrified look on her face. As it turned out, Johnson was shot in both ankles. When the former POWs appeared briefly after their release from the hospital, Johnson still needed a wheelchair. But Johnson and Piestewa weren't billed as "national heroes."

Despite their ordeals, they just didn't fit the role. The image of the American heroine hasn't changed since Scarlett O'Hara fought off the yankees in "Gone With the Wind."

But not everyone has bought into the Lynch hype. And it would be a mistake to assume that Johnson was completely overlooked.

She was honored by the Congressional Black Caucus shortly after her release from the hospital and had to limp to the podium to receive her plaque and a flag. Johnson was also offered a $100,000 scholarship to one of the top culinary schools in Rhode Island, and a woman in Maryland offered to buy a bakery for Johnson, who joined the Army as a cook to improve her culinary skills.

10. Good
I'm glad to see that someone recognized Shoshanna in some small way at least. In my mind, she would be the perfect subject of a made-for-tv movie.

Also, I got the distinct impression that Jessica will pay great tribute to Lori in her book. They were close friends and Jessica still feels the loss, at least that's what can be surmised from her few public statements.

8. oh well don't you know
<start freeper rant>

I mean, who CARES about a black girl and an Indian girl? They got their right to vote and own property....with those people they want EVERYTHING.....

first they wanted an appology for slavery and the extermination of an entire race of people--they got that...what more do they want?

I mean, come on. That indian girl was probably part of a tribe, and why should we pay her family $1M to write a story? She's dead, and she got a mountain named after her. The indian tribes should take care of her family, not hard-working blue collar flag waving americans.

they should be so LUCKY as to even BE in the armed services. it's the least they can do for their country after all the whining and bitching those people have done for the last 200 years or so.

They should just shut up and be thankful they're alive....except for that indian girl, who's dead...but she should just shut up and stay dead and be happy they named a mountain after her.

I mean, there's no mountain named after Jessica Lynch is there? THat just shows was an anti-white country we live in. Some indian girl dies and gets a mountain, while Jessica Lynch, a TRUE patriot, is captured and mutilated by evil Iraqi's and she gets a paltry $1M book deal.

I bet that black girl doesn't even WANT to write a book because then she'll be forced to admit that she wasn't "REALLY" a POW---I heard through newsmax once that while Jessica Lynch was blasting away those rapist Iraqi Sadistic Satanic doctors, that black girl was drinking Mai-Tai's with the Iraqi soldiers. I mean, come on! She's practically a TRAITOR....

And speaking of Satanic, you know how those people are with their religion. The black girl (from what I hear) was into VooDoo and that Indian Girl probably was worshiping the sun god and praying for rain the day she died.

Jessica Lynch was put here on earth by OUR god, not some voo-doo, chicken-head eating God, nor some rain god or moose god, as those heathenistic, unamerican traitors would have you believe...

</end freeper rant>

----

Of course this is what *THEY* will say---and I say that sadly, this attitude is precisely why Shoshanna and Lori Ann (or her family) will never get book deals, and if they do, they will NOT be for $1M, NOR will they have the absolute media saturation that little jessica will

9. I think you guys are being ridiculous . . .

For starters, Lori Piestewa is DEAD. And as for Shoshanna Johnson, I'll bet you anything she has been offered a book deal. I am far more interested in what Shoshanna Johnson has to say than the scripted memories of America's favorite amnesiac. The only people that are going to get book deals are the ones that miraculously make it our of Iraq alive. Give it some time. I'm sure all of the POWs have a story to tell. (If they dare tell it.)

11. Question...
I asked this in the "profiteer" thread, but maybe it is better suited for this thread.

Did any of the other 507th POWs and KIAs receive the bronze star (this also includes the two helicopter pilot POWs). Is the bronze star awarded posthumously?

12. Not to mention Iraq veterans like Vanessa Turner
who was near death in Iraq and returned to Boston homeless. She is also a single mother and African-American.

"Sgt. Vannessa Turner was one of approximately 150,000 American soldiers fighting in Baghdad.

On May 18, she collapsed due to the severe 130-degree heat. Her body was full of mosquito bites. She fell into a coma and nearly died. Turner was airlifted for treatment in Germany and was further treated in Washington D.C. until she was released on July 10. She came back to her so-called "hometown" in Boston and faced a new battle. She was unable to receive treatment for damaged nerves in her leg. She was unable to have her possessions shipped to her from her military base in Germany. She and her 15 year-old daughter are homeless."

Is it true blondes have more fun? In this case, I'd say so. Gotta keep pumping these lilly white petite blondes that weren't even injured in actual combat, muchless killed like the Indian woman was!

Makes me sick! :puke:

Jessica Lynch is in it for one thing - the $$$$$ and nothing else. To hell with everyone else!

Jessica has the right to put down on paper what her experiences were, but she has to be prepared for criticism that is already coming out about her book, especially from other soldier's families.

23. I agree with the other posters here
They're not blonde and petite, ergo they don't rate.

I recall it was the British press that first talked about Jessica--when it was presumed she was dead. The American media whores said nothing, 'sos not to scare us 'Murkans with the awful truth about Iraq. Then the Pentagon spins a story out of cloth and before you know it, instant celebrity!

The terrified black female soldier who was caught on film--her fellow soldiers were dead around her--wasn't that Shoshanna? I'll never forget the look on her face. I'm far more interested in her fate.
