I'm flip flopping: I now FAVOR the Yucca Mountain waste dump
Ever since I have been interested in politics I have always opposed the Yucca Mountain nuclear waste depository.

Until Now.

Since Nevada voted for Bush, particularly the rural part of the state, knowing full well that Bush broke his promise and decided to screw the state anyway. In fact, Nye County, Nevada, the county of Yucca Mountain voted for Bush over Kerry 58%-39%. Every County in Neavda voted for Bush except for Clark County (Las Vegas), and even there it was only 52%-47% in favor of Kerry.

I'm sorry but at that point I have to say, screw Nevada! Let the nuc-uler waste trucks begin their procession! Nevada is open for business!

3. May you suffer the same consequences of all those . . .
that are harmed by interstate transportation of nuclear waste to Nevada as well as within the State of Nevada!

4. The EWG used to provide maps for the YUCCA Route but now this message:

PLEASE NOTE
Environmental Working Group no longer offers interactive nuclear waste route maps at www.mapscience.org.

For information on your proximity to proposed routes for shipment of high-level nuclear waste, contact the U.S. Department of Energy.

For information on other Environmental Working Group projects, go to http://web.archive.org/web/20040304203245/http://www.ewg.org/.

I had to use the way back machine to even get that now it is access forbidden.. this happened in the beginning of 2004 ...

Suspicious or what? Considering they still maintain the site just pulled the info off.

On edit when I went there 2 years ago when they first introduced the map trains holding nuclear waste on the way to YUCCA mountain would pass by my house by less that a mile and past my Fiancess parents house by less than 2 blocks.

So while I don't like Nevada Reoublicans right now I sure hope that something happens to curtail the plan..

6. Ouch.
What is the standard internet etiquette regarding calling someone a "dumbfuck" and following it up with a " :P "? Does one respond with a "STFU, asswipe!" or a "LOLMAO :) "?

12. As long as people realize not just Nevada is fucked...
I understand his frustration. Hell, I live in Nevada. While we're on the receiving end of this very bad idea, that shit has to first pass through a lot of other places to get here. It's easy to laugh it off as someone else's misfortune, but the reality potentially won't be so limited in scope. We all have to fight this and find alternate means of dealing with nuclear waste.

8. I dont really understand what the big problem with it was anyways...
you have to store all of that stuff somewhere.

Better to have most all of it at one place than having multiple dumps all over the nation.

9. Yeah. And the waste should all be trucked through Red counties ONLY
Bush was for it. Kerry voted against it. The Red counties should be the ones who bear the risks of transporting it.

14. Because, for a number of reasons, Yucca Mt is a horrible site
First off, it is very close to an active earthquake fault. Second, those mountains have fissures running throughout them. When tests were done a few years ago, a dye marker that was released from one of the proposed repository tunnels in Yucca Mt. showed up in Las Vegas ground water. Third, if we are ever attacked with nukes, Yucca Mt is in the area of one of the top targets. Fourth, the containers that the waste is stored in breaks down relatively quickly. Steel rusts, plastic deteriorates, etc, leading to spills. Fifth, moving all that waste around the country to Yucca Mt. means an increased chance of accidents occuring and radioactive wastes being leaked into the enviroment. Also, a terror attack on a radioactive shipment could be devastating.

Instead of simply pushing our radioactive waste problem under a mountain, let us simply give up on nuclear power and work on improving renewable resources that don't have such toxic waste.

13. Well that is foolish, considering that the most impacted region will be
Las Vegas. Nice of you to consign an entire city to slow death due to radiation poisoning.

Rather than ship all that waste to Yucca Mt. why not simply stop using nukes?

15. The path to take the nuclear waste should run right through the
Hypocrite areas!

One question? What if most of the people in the "Red States" didn't vote for * and there vote was ripped off. Propaganda is being played out in the media right now and we would never know if a red state is truly red.
