On Organizing

"Let nobody fool you, all the loud noises we hear today are nothing but the death groans of a dying system. The old order is passing away, the new order is coming into being. But whenever there is anything new there are new responsibilities. As we think of this coming new world we must think of the challenge that we confront and the new responsibilites before us."

Martin Luther King, Jr.
August 11th, 1956

We are those new leaders in a new day.

Now what is our organizing principle? What is the goal that you are I are willing to sacrifice all, yes even our lives, for?

I say the organizing principle is Democracy... it is to rescue this Republic from the Fascists who now control it. But you need to cut this into bytes that can be used and explained. If you say democracy people will look at you... weird... after all we have a democracy... didn't you get the memo?

Moreover, you are to use history as a guide, we have been here before. Yet our present condition is different from the condition that faced MLK. We are now living in a police state.

So first things first, do not loose HOPE. If you hope, then they win.

Here are the things that all of you must do locally.

1.- Create Action Committes. Each committte must have an organizing priciple voted in by the organization. Yes we want a democracy back, you need to do this democratically.

Remember:

The only true responsible consensus will emerge from the grassroots

Every alliance must be considered on its own merits (Yes look for the support of TRUE conservatives and Libertarians)

True alliances are based on self interest for both groups, and some common elements (Liberatarians and US want to protect civil rights, true conservatives and us believe in budgetary discipline)

When one person stands up, he will be run out of town, when a thousand stand up... the situation is wholy altered.

Laws only declare rights, they do not deliver them. Yes you will have to fight for them and stand for them.

1. Thanks Nadine, I needed that
I will continue my activism , only more so since I haved moved to a red area of the state. I will be 60 next week and I was hoping the young ones would pick up the mantle. This has not happened to my dismay. Soooo I will continue to agitate. When can I rest?

2. I need you to teach
You are the teacher that we all need.

We are the young'ins, we are ready... or at least I am... but those who were in the movement in the sixties are needed now to teach... those kids are waiting for somebody to lead.

I did not ask for this role, and I am sure neither did you... but hey...

And I am in my late thirties....

3. A "Red:" State?
Take the color Red back.
May sound trivial, but I still want it. I am partial to the color Red. I think of May Day, red bandanas, red flags, commies and red blooded Amuricans. How can I retrieve it from those nasty nazi neocons? They deserve blue, it is for blue bloods. They just don't deserve to have their territory marked in my color, our color. I don't want to sound like a gangsta with all of that silly territorial spoor marking. But color coding is primeval and we have historical precedence. We had it first and somehow they,Republicans, stole it.

I would be taking the freeway blogger approach. I think he is the most happening activist around. To tell the truth all these walls in the desert drive me crasy. What a canvas if you catch my drift. The tagging is apolitical and grafitti should return to its roots. A political voice for the voiceless.Yeah , yeah, I know it's vandalism, but , WTF? I long for a chicago 7 , a weather underground, a black panther party, Man those were the days. Regards to my friends at the gay liberation front who took over the rolling Stone magazine, and rioted at the SF Examiner. Gay guns was a good group too.Isn't it time to "take over" some soft RW media outlet? God , I remember Peoples Park and SF State as if they were yesterday.
on edit: the Walmart action in Missoula is the best thing to happen in a long time.

pushing empty carts and screaning BUY LOCAL, BUY AMERICAN... when tehy were asked to leave, they formed a conga line and did this, for two and a half walks around the perimeter of the store, before leaving

Things are happening... but this is because people are starting to do things...

More will happen... more will happen

9. Absolutely. Organization is one thing they fear.
We might take a page out of the script we apparently wrote for the Ukranians. Unifying symbols, the chestnut banners, some semblance of order around a central theme. My own theme would be Guantanamo - that is the crime that ends any plans on my part for moderation, patience or reconciliation. We likely have another dozen like guantanamo around the globe at the moment, but anyone who would sleep through what we know already, waiting for something worse...

anyway, Organize. If it is happening, I am in. At the moment I am finishing a degree and planning on local efforts, but bigger plans are fine too.

10. speaking of symbols....
I propose we all start wearing an item of clothing every day... at first I thought a shirt, but no... bandanas have the problems of the gangs... but I'd say an item will work

For the sixties it was the peace sign...

I'd say the flag, which will make the Preznit look stupid, especially a flag with ta yellow ribon...
