Nixon's "Southern Strategy" - specfics?

I've often read that Richard Nixon used a "Southern Strategy" of exploiting racism to get elected president, but I've never seen specifics.

Does anyone know anything specific Nixon did or said to exploit racism?

I believe it was devised by Kevin Phillips, and even he wrote a book bashing the chimp and family!

2. Yes, I had heard that, too. I'm not sure exactly how Nixon started

it, but I know Reagan kept up the strategy. He opened his presidential campaign in Philadelphia, Mississippi, where the three civil rights workers were brutally murdered.:evilfrown:

He also used the expression "welfare queens," which resonated in the south and elsewhere.
