5. Saturday...couldn't have happened to a nicer guy |

A funny thing is that three weeks ago I picked up an autographed copy of his "The Cross and The Sickle" as a gift for a friend who has always been disgusted and amused by the Reverend Hargis :)

I wake up every morning (okay, every afternoon) hoping today will be the day that they release the episodes on DVD
Jimmy Joe Jeter was a child evangelist on the show who met his end in just such a way

4. I don't need to google him, I actually knew him 30 years ago... |
|
and I also know Oral...er, Anal Roberts as well - his youngest son was a friend back in high school -- he committed suicide shortly after we graduated. Tulsa has a significant portion of insane wingnut 'evangelist' types. Some of the stories I could tell........... :eyes:

My personal theory being that conservatism and X-tian fundamentalism go hand in hand in breeding psychoses and social pathologies.

I did hear some stories (rumors?) that he was into some drugs, but never thought much about it, most of us did "experiment" a tiny bit back then. Yes, I inhaled. :D I worked part time at an upscale "Hi-Fi/Stereo" store in HS and part of college and installed a very expensive (McIntosh, Klipsch, etc.) in Oral's house when he lived just 3 blocks from my own house that included remote speakers in 3 or 4 rooms, I forget the details, but it required me to go into the attic to run wires...I found Hustler magazines and a bunch of 8 mm movie reels behind an a/c duct...looked at some of the film frames & was able to discern some very, uh, 'salacious' pictures. Never mentioned it to Ronnie though. Another good friend of mine was the son of Oral's CFO (or whatever they called the money guy in their organization)...he told me lots of stories about his dad opening up huge mailbags and taking out many thousands of $$ every day. Which was no surprise really, my own aunt who lived in Illinois used to send the SOB most of what little SS money she got. I tried to tell her she was giving money to a rat bastard...which pissed her off so much we never spoke again. :eyes: edit: I'm not familiar with any of his kids teaching Russian...actually, I don't remember any children other than Ronnie and Richard, but I might be forgetting about any others...hmmm ???
