Canadian TV (and C-SPAN) alert: 'The National' examines us vs. them
Edited on Mon Nov-29-04 09:48 PM by Newsjock
Peter Mansbridge has a panel of Americans and Canadians assembled in Windsor, Ont., talking about how we're different and alike. In the middle: A family that's moving from Seattle to Nelson, B.C. He's getting hit hard from the U.S. side, including from the president of the American Family Association of Michigan. The Americans are telling him "Good riddance"; the Canadians are grateful he's building a family in their land.

This is an hour-long forum that's airing tonight as part of The National, airing now on Newsworld, and airing coast to coast at 10 p.m. local time on the main CBC network. Video will be posted online after 11:30 p.m. EST at http://cbc.ca/national

On edit: Second guest is someone in Bellingham, Wash., who's about to move to Canada as well.

And, video is online live at http://cspan.org

They note:
5353 Americans have moved to Canada this year.
11436 Canadians have moved to the United States this year.

2. 'Good riddance', I don't understand why people are that mean
I'm from the U.K. and if someone wants to leave here and settle somewhere else then good luck to them.

Although those idiots probably think everywhere outside the U.S. is a wasteland with tumbleweeds

3. Oh gosh, that Air Farce bit!
"We've decriminalized pot and legalized same-sex marriage, because we realized that people opposed to these don't want to do them anyway."

It's a must-see. :)

4. People who'll say 'good riddance'...
...could eventually exterminate people they don't like. And invade countries they don't like. Look out, Canada! :o

6. "I hope that we can keep George Bush from attacking you."
A Michigan woman said that, after saying she was staying in the US to fight, even though she believed the system she's expected to fight within isn't honest.

8. canadas are moving south cause...
Because America needs Canada's doctors and nurses. Canada trains its medical personnel through socialized education, and those canadians move south because they are offered higher wages and bonuses for doing so. America has a crisis of health care professionals.

Hence the comments about the trouble of Canada is having with its' socialized health care, so many medical professional move from Canada that its' own health care system is suffering.

Health professionals are only a portion of the professionals that are moving for the same reasons, money.

9. "As for Iraq, well, we were attacked..."
One of the 50+ percent of Murkans who still thinks Iraq was behind 9/11 pulled his head out long enough to regurgitate this load of crap although later a Canadian was kind enough to point out his error.

Sheesh.
