Went to the Clinton Library this weekend and I found myself
Edited on Mon Nov-29-04 11:38 PM by Blue_Roses
choking back the tears to think of where we once were as a country to where we are now. No matter what your opinion of Clinton, there's no doubt in the fact that he does care for the "little people" and genuinely loved his job and working for the good of the country. He truely was a uniter.

I just wish he would have told Ken Starr to go fuck himself early on. Clinton was way too nice to the repubs. Glad to see him smack down Peter Jennings. It was a long time coming.

1. Did you see any submarines stalking the Library?
Bush was worried about that possibility last week.

15. Hope so.
It makes you wonder. Next to Reagan's missile gaff (the missiles start flying in 10 minutes) on the radio one of the stupidest things a President ever said. Problem with Bush is I do not think he has Ronnie's sense of humor.

9. here's the essay which includes bush's sub comment

(and someone has the photo of bush pushing his way past Clinton through the door making sure he'd be at the head of the prez lineup - maybe they'll post it)

One Gulp and Bush was gone
http://www.guardian.co.uk/usa/story/0,12271,1358966,00.html

snip

Bush appeared distracted, and glanced repeatedly at his watch. When he stopped to gaze at the river, where secret service agents were stationed in boats, the guide said: "Usually, you might see some bass fishermen out there." Bush replied: "A submarine could take this place out."

Was the president warning of an al-Qaida submarine, sneaking undetected up the Mississippi, through the locks and dams of the Arkansas river, surfacing under the bridge to the 21st century to dispatch the Clinton library? Is that where Osama bin Laden is hiding?

Or was this a wishful paranoid fantasy of ubiquitous terrorism destroying Clinton's legacy with one blow? Or a projection of menace and messianism, with only Bush grasping the true danger, standing between submerged threat and civilisation? Perhaps it was simply his way of saying he wouldn't build his library near water.

snip

edit: had to add comment about that great pix - hope someone has it

6. Was at the opening ceremony
I too had to choke back tears. Or maybe that was mostly rain running down my cheeks... hmm Downtown Little Rock was a Clinton love fest, or at least, a Republican hate fest. It was great.

7. Clinton should have threatened the Bush family...
and Republicans with unrelenting investigations and prosecutions. He was too easy on them.

10. Is the library crowded with visitors already? We're in MN and would
dearly love to take a quick trip to see it - it sounds like we should bring plenty of kleenex!

11. this weekend was free admission and YES, the line went on
it seemed forever and it was cold. We stood in line for almost 2 hours to get in, but it was worth it.

12. cold is one thing, for a minnesotan, but that is a long wait! Is the
building wonderful on the outside, as well? That would sure make the line-wait easier - from what Hillary has said about the structure, it sounds just overwhelming.

13. a Minnesotan would not find it cold, let me assure you
Little Rock is a pretty little city, too. Plus you could go down to Hot Springs and enjoy the ..hot springs...the bath houses/spas are very nice, and go to the Diamond State Park and dig for diamonds (Hillary has a diamond from there)..enjoy the Ozarks ..Memphis is only 2 hours away..
it would be a nice vacation.

Spring is gorgeous, esp when the redbud, dogwood etc are in bloom.

16. Never thought I'd say this,
but I can't wait to go to Arkansas! I choke back tears whenever I see the guy -- as much as I loved him while he was in office, I truly did not appreciate him enough until the boy king took over. It was so nice to have a president who could form proper sentences (and who didn't make our country universally despised.)
