Do you suppose there are any gay, right wing, Christian fundamentalists?
Just asking.

Given the hypocrisy of the Republican party, (most recently, the flap over Ken Mehlman's sexual orientation) what if some of the gay-bashing, homophobic, fundies are actually in the closet? And of even greater import, what if some of their ministers, or leaders, or spokespersons were gay?

Well, at the very least, I think this would give hypocrisy a bad name. However, the thought of a fundie outing fest is, IMO, a version of ultimate justice.

Any opinions?

But never fear, mandatory mental health screening is near...
What IS it that draws us to these abusive men anyway?

8. ah - there is a problem with this simple definition
to be "gay" implies a lot more than occasional same-sex attractions; it implies a participation in the culture in one form or another.

Perhaps "in the closet" has more relevance in this case, but that doesn't necessarily imply that someone would actually be a part of the gay culture if they came out of the closet. There are many more colors than black and white in that rainbow.

I personally believe that it's not so much that they're closeted but that they're envious of a more liberal acceptance of sexuality in general, of whatever orientation. They can't participate in it unless they're doing the worst of both orientations, trolling the bookstores or hiring whores, and so they feel guilty and disgusted and revile it in public.

They are hypocrits, and they are hurting us in our personal lives because they aren't happy with their own. They need to be "outed" for being hypocrits, not for being gay or hypersexual or whatever floats their boats.

9. I have talked to a gay wacko fundie black helicopter militia type
online in a gay chatroom. He lives in the woods somewhere here in CT and he rants and rales about libruls and quotes scripture. His "sexual interests" that he lists in his profile showcase his strange cognitive dissonance or "disconnect".

when I was stationed there in the navy. I am not sure if being a fundie is a requirement to be employed by Pat Robertson though.

15. My husband got a theology degree and says that
whatever a man preaches the most about is his own sin (think Jimmy Swaggart and prostitution). We both went to this Christian college and his roommate and a bunch of other guys in his dorm were gay. They were pretty much on the QT about it but when it all came out I asked why in the world did they not go to a state school where it would be more easily tolerated and they said it was just a much better set-up there - no one gives a thought to all the males being sequestered together and kept apart from the females. Of course we also had the music teacher (married with kids) who looked forward to the incoming crop of freshman guys every year. Someone eventually ratted him out and he had to leave. I would dare say the fundies have as big a percentage or more of closeted gays than the rest of society.

20. Paul Crouch (TBN) and Jim Bakker
Jim Bakker had a few select males on his staff give him "rub downs" and he would fondle their penises during the massage.

Paul Crouch is being sued for some type of homosexual thing. If it's ever established that he is, it's over for TBN. That's good, too. First, PTL went under. Then, Turner bought the CBN family channel out from under Robertson (now it's ABC-owned), and Marion is limited to just "The 700 Club" and that goofy women's show right before it, with that scary woman who thinks she's so funny. Although, I miss the 80s CBN soap opera "Another Life". It was just so camp.

21. I knew a fundie who was friendly towards gays,
and not the least bit disapproving. I don't know if he was gay himself. He seemed mentally conflicted with an anxiety disorder. Anyway, his homophobic employer fired him, just for having a tolerant attitude. This happened back in 1993. He never did discuss politics.

22. I wonder if it is the same as with some Catholic priests
that staying in the religion somehow will wipe their 'sinfulness' away, help them to deal with their 'problem', etc.

If you've been indoctrinated since birth or a young age, I think it may be difficult to let go of the thinking that you're full of sin, and going to hell.

30. From my experience, priests break out
About half are sincere about giving up a life of their own to serve humanity (whether they are equipped mentally to do that is another story); about twenty-five percent are gay hoping that seminary will make them not gay anymore; about twenty-two percent are power-hungry MFers who love using the authority of the priesthood to order around the laity; and the remainder are the pederasts.
