I was browsing through Ann Coulter's "Treason" and I have to
say that this is one brilliant piece of parody. I then went over to the shelf and found "How to Talk to a Liberal." Man, oh man, that is funny stuff. What is even more impressive is that Ann is not even a trained comedian. These books have everything: political parody, cultural parody, social parody. It is a parody galore. Wow!! And, all the while I thought Ann was serious. Hell, Ann's persona is even a parody of a transvestite. I mean, Ann doesn't even try to look like a woman, for crying out loud. Ann gives Dame Edna a run for her money.

I nominate Ann Coulter for left-wing satirist of the decade!!

2. If only she would come out and say
that it was all a big joke to make the Republicans look ridiculous. Can you imagine the shocked reactions? Oh well, one can dream.

3. Ann was writing for us not for them. She knows that they would
not be able to get the joke.

4. I've been wondering about her true intent for some time now.
I've not read her books, but have seen her on TV. After seeing her on Bill Maher's show, I have to wonder how much is real and how much is schtick. I kinda think her main intent is to rake in the dough while poking fun at both sides, and escalating the argument is a necessity for her success.

In fact, I wonder this about a lot of the talking heads and pundits.

5. I couldn't get past page 4 of Treason
I consider myself to be fairly open-minded, and from time to time I will pick up a right-wing book just to see where the current thought is. But honestly, Treason repulsed me. Perhaps if I put it in the context of parody, I'll be able to make it to page 10.

6. Political pr0n star, not satirist
I think she's smart enough to know that she's lying, but not smart enough to realize that she has descended to self-parody. I don't think Treason is satire, any more than is Flashpants or Shaving Ryan's Privates.

7. You know, she is so over the top that I can't help wondering whether
she is some sort of weird performance artist. Either that or just plain out of her mind.
