Some very interesting 09/04 poll numbers: 79% want expanded Healthcare.
The Chicago Council of Foreign Relations had a poll that focused mostly on International policy, but included some domestic opinions as well.

You can find the entire poll http://www.ccfr.org/globalviews2004/sub/pdf/2004_US_Public_Topline_Report.pdf">here, it's a big pdf so caution to those with dial-up, sorry.

The methodology is unique (At least as far as I know), the company that does it selected a sample of Americans and then asked them to answer different surveys, if they didn't have a computer they hooked them up with free hardware and internet access.

The first question set was: "Below is a list of present federal government programs. For each, please select whether you feel it should be expanded, cut back or kept about the same."

Healthcare: 79% "Expand"

Social Security: 65% "Expand"

Later on 80% wanted us to join the Landmine Treaty. 57% to join the World Court.

Not exactly "Conservative" views and trending quite Liberal/Progressive on Labor issues too.

Perhaps one of the reasons however that 40% don't vote (Accepting that some just don't care and others get caught moving and forget to register) is that when asked:

Now please consider how much influence you think some people and groups have on U.S. foreign policy. Please answer on a scale of 0 to 10, with 0 meaning they are not at all influential and 10 meaning they are extremely influential

The American Pubic was given a Mean of 5.0 out of 10.

No faith in the efficacy of citizenship.

The others that voted for the Fascists however are probably just scared shitless of "Terrorists" hiding under their bed...

4. I want expanded health care BECAUSE of my values and religion
It doesn't seem very Christian to let people suffer without health care or food. Oh well, at least I know that "traditional marriage" is protected. :eyes: I hope one of these days some Republican will push for a ban on adultery, wife abuse, divorce, etc. to protect marriage.

2. They want expanded social programs...
so they vote for a right-wing president who gives most of them nothing but very wussy tax cuts.

Which is it, folks?

6. Only around 30% voted Bush & around 30% for Kerry.

40% didn't vote at all. So "they" didn't elect the chimp. 30% did.

But one thing that a lot of DU'ers may or may not want to admit is that a lot of Americans have no confidence in either Party.

Sort of like getting to vote for the King, who cares?

Not saying that I don't but it's not an uncommon view and that's our fault.

7. Wow, talk about shooting themselves in the foot, since 52% . . .
. . . supposedly voted for Bush (although we all know that number is highly suspect) while 47% voted for Kerry (again not believable) that would mane that even if all Kerry voters answered yes to expanded universal health-care for all, then the other 32% voted for Bush meaning that nearly two thirds of Bush's constituency want health care coverage expanded. Will shrub just ignore them, or did those people actually mean to vote for Kerry on that issue, but somehow it ended up over in Bush's column! Gee, more voting inconsistencies. Bush doesn't want expanded health-care for Iraq war veterans returning back with wounds and disabilities and mysterious diseases. Why did these people ever vote for Bush knowing that? I guess they would rather suffer with paying higher health-care costs or having no health insurance, but feel good about keeping gays and lesbians from having a committed and faithful marriage.

9. True.
I'd say there are very few, percentage wise, truly despicable people. sadly though many people just give up or get manipulated by our "Liberal Media".

11. Thankfully, living in NYC I tend to speak to mostly same minded people..
as me, but the few times someone complains to me about entitlement programs, I ask them how they are planning to pay for their healthcare in their golden years, after the Rebugs do want they've wanted to do since it became law: do away with it. Shuts them up every time. People will argue abt 'private social security' but even they are smart enough usually to comprehend just how much that defibrillator will cost them in 2020, with no Medicare around.

12. Too bad for them. They need to consult their clergymen.
I read that churches are taking over where the government programs now fall short for lack of funding. People willingly give lots of extra money to their church to handle its faith-based replacements for welfare and childcare and schools, maybe more than they saved in the Bush tax cuts. Great. Let's do this thing.

The more of this crap I see, the more I'm beginning to agree with Grover Norquist. Scrap it all. Burn it down. Starve the beast, and all its affilliates. Then we can have a full-on revolution and start the fuck over.
