Got a call from a USMC buddy that I haven't seen in 30 yrs.

We both served in Nam and now we're both retired. For hours we disscussed how our lives had gone. And then of course the talk turned to politics...... How we are both so fustrated with what has happened to this country. We talked about what macho little fools we were for wanting to see combat. I wasn't wounded, but he had taken a bullet near his spine in that 1st useless quagmire. We both have draft age boys that we will never surrender to the chickenhawks. Been there, done that.
All in all it was a wonderfull experience to talk to my old USMC/Democrat broham. Thought I'd share it with ya DUers especially since there has been so much ranting about what the Marines are doing in Iraq.

Two guys that actually saw combat against the war? Well, obviously you guys had the "wrong priorities" and that's why you can't see things like Bushco does-which is the only right way, of cawss. Now, if you had dodged service, you guys would be real patriots now.
*sarcasm off* :silly:

2. Very cool, thanks for sharing your story
A few years back I heard from an old Air Force friend. Invited me out to lunch, I was pretty happy to hear from him so I went.

You know the rest - he was selling Amway. :eyes:

5. Well, some may sell Amway because ...
they can't get a real job in the Bushco economy.

12. sure, but I hope most folks are smart enough to recognize
a pyramid scheme when they see one. I've known a lot of folks who have sold it - I don't know any who still do or who made their money back - no hedge against even a Bush economy.

14. I know three that have done
amazingly well. They are very wealthy actually. BUT, they were all in on the whole AMWAY thing back when it first started and they stuck with it. Now all they do is give seminars and pep talks to regional managers (or whatever they call them) and cash their checks.

They all started other businesses as well.

In turn I can think of 50 others that I have met who have experienced AMWAY and have not done well at all.

15. Yeah, you have your poster boy Ruby and Diamonds
but their success is made on the backs of dozens if not hundreds of others who work their asses off and get nothing but debt. Not a remedy to Bush economicss.

3. I'm Envious. MY Comrades from Back Then
are hopeless wingnut-Shrub-worshippers. One local one doesn't vote but gives Shrub "credit" because his VA disability check of $2000/mo got approved two yrs ago when Shrub was in office.

4. Awhile back
my (fundy) sister sent me an email going around that was supposed to be a rah rah kind of message about the troops. Trouble was - the examples in it were (if I remember right) Captain Kangaroo and Mister Rogers who had been in the service and then had become pacifists.

Seemed to me it was more of indictment against war.

6. I saw one of my Dad's 'nam buddies during Thanksgiving
and he had his entire pickup truck plastered with hate-the-dems stickers. "Vietnam Vets Against Kerry" was the biggest and brightest.

Kind of sad, really.

9. My big bro did 2 tours of Nam in the early 70s
He's a Rush/NRA/Bush donor, but also a great guy.

When we talked by phone on Thanksgiving Day, he gloated only mildly about the election. Then I asked him if -- since we now have full bore BushCo for anorther 4 years -- he had full faith and confidence in his pResidnet and commander in chief. My brother fell silent for a long time, and then said no.

10. Well, at least he said no. Just makes you wonder thought why
vets would vote for Bush. I just don't understand it.

11. I recently talked to my great-uncle who was in the Philippines
during WW II. Fascinating man. Had nothing good to say about Bush or this war that he's gotten us into.

I think he has a credible perspective of war and why wars should be fought. He was also a young adult at the start of the Great Depression. He understands first-hand what social programs can do and what laissez-faire politics can do to a nation's economy.

And in case you think he's some godless anti-family person or something...he and his wife will be celebrating their 74th wedding anniversary together next week.
