ummm. hello? this is PRIMARY season. they (we) are SUPPOSED to be fighting
the candidates are SUPPOSED to be fighting for our votes!

the backers of each candidate are SUPPOSED to be fighting for THEIR guy/gal!

its call POLITICS! he/she who fights HARDEST usually WINS!

THEN we all hug, gather round for Smores at the campfire and...

BEAT BUSH'S ASS!

*unless of course its Lieberman who fights hardest* :P

*ducking*

now all of you DeanKerryGephartKucinichMoselySharptonClarkEdwardsGrahm backers....

LIGHTEN UP, CONVINCE OTHERS WITH FACTUAL DATA AND MAY THE BEST CANDIDATE WIN!

1. With the vitriol that's been hurled around here lately
I'm afraid we won't get to this part:
"THEN we all hug, gather round for Smores at the campfire and...
BEAT BUSH'S ASS!"

Already I've seen posters leave and announcements about not voting or refusing to vote for specific candidates.

I guess I suffer from typical middle child syndrome. I just want everyone to get along.

6. You're absolutely correct
This is DU's first presidential primary, we're all newbies and there are no set rules. I think what's happening on DU so far is healthy.

Personally, I'm staying out of the fray. I've already chosen my candidate based on my own research. I read all the posts with interest, but nothing except the actual candidate's actions will change my mind.

though we should be trying to fight more civilly to make it easier later.

10. watch what happens here
I'm all for open debate, but Mr. Pitt is right. The wolfpack attacks are getting O-L-D. I haven't seen a decent discussion here in awhile. Just partisan sniping, fangs, spit and claws. It is counterproductive and alienating,in my opinion.

11. this has nothing to do with Will's post
actually i didn't even see that until after i posted this one.

just an observation.

this is the PRIMARY which in itself means that its Dem on Dem.

why should DU be any different? i just ask that people use some intelligence and back up their positions with FACTS, NOT innuendo.

21. I was in a decent discussion today that dealt with candidates,

and have read quite a few others lately. Many of the candidate threads do turn to trash, mostly due to people popping in and taking a quick shot at someone. I wish they'd bring back the rule requiring lengthier posts, and apply it to all posts, not just thread starters.

12. right on...
i LOVE a good debate.

The only thing that irks me is when people post lies or half-truths or flat-out smears against some other candidate. We should be better than that. Read "Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them" and you'll recognize a lot of the same tactics used here.

We can all defend our pet candidates without having to lie about others. Legitimate discussions of policy differences? Bring it on! But ixnay on the freeper-style debate tactics. We're better than that.

22. Isn't that what people hate Nader for here
Because he attacked Gore viciously and falsely, which contributed to the disaster of 2000?

Sorry, but if a candidate is attacking with bullshit, I cannot respect him.

so, all the candidates will have equal chance of losing to Bush, especially because they went around saying just exactly that :eyes:

23. Lighten up is right.
The whining about candidates being criticized has been deafening. This is a run for the White House, not class president. Anyone whose loyalty to a POLITICIAN is so extreme that they cannot stand criticism, needs to get far away from political debate.

24. I am very concerned about the hatefulness between
the Dean and Kerry camps.

In fact, there was one thread of back-and-forth insults and I posted something like this at about Message #40 (+ or -); "...you guys are getting so entrenched. I'm wondering if Kerry people will be able to vote for Dean and, conversely, if Dean people will be able to for Kerry after all this."

The replies to that were a resounding "No"!

That is very upsetting considering that at this point anyway, it very well might be one of those 2 candidates. So I asked them to please reconsider because either Kerry or Dean would be better than Bush. The 1st reply I got was something like "no, __________ is not".

Holy shit!!! I just left their thread after that one.
