Danforth Fed Up With Lies
The Rev. John Danforth, uncomfortable with all the lies he has to tell as part of being U.N. ambassador, has abruptly resigned. Sounds like he's fed up with the Bush administration. Unlike the shameless Colin Powell, Rev. Danforth wants to be respected.

Danforth will be replaced by an inveterate sneak like John Negroponte, the guy who had the job before him. Negroponte wouldn't tell you the truth if you asked him the time of day.

5. I recall it was Danforth who stood by Clarence Thompson
during the confirmation hearings and said some awful things about Anita Hill. He is no hero in my book!!

2. I do not see anything about him saying he is fed up with lying/

...Some former colleagues noted that Danforth, a moderate in a conservative administration, had expressed frustration in recent speeches in his home state about not being more of an independent actor and having to check with Washington.....

3. I didn't see anything about him saying he had to LIE.

That's a pretty strong contention based on the article (and, of course, it is probably true), but your subject line and text comment lead people to think that the articles says that HE said LIES.

4. He was a "place-holder".. watch for someone REALLLLLY wacko
to replace him :puke:

They needed negroponte in Iraq, and could not leave the position empty.. I doubt that Danforth planned to be there for a long time.. He was just doing *² a favor until the election.

7. The guy who foisted Clarence Thomas on us
worried about lying for Bushco? I doubt that.

8. Here's why I think he quit:
He's an Ordained Episcopal Minister.

Now, if you don't know any, they tend to be moderate, tolerant, measured fellows. Not taken to great flights of hyperbole. Not taken to great flights of judgement on the spiritual acceptability of their fellow man. Accepting of our weaknesses and foibles.

Interestingly, when I was a wee laddie, I had a Sunday School teacher, Mrs. Dillon. Lovely lady. We kids loved Mrs. Dillon. Mr. Dillon was a real nice guy. Very warm. Very natural. We would go "basseting" over at their farm.

His full name was C. Douglas Dillon. Google it. I was kinda surprised when I found out. I found out when my dad showed me a $1 dollar bill and the signatures thereon.

Oh, the proper honorific for Mr. Danforth is "Father Danforth" in the Episcopal tradition. Lotta old Republicans in the Episcopal church. I am sure they are presently horrified.

Take it from an old acolyte. ;-)
